AMD Board Approves Acquisition of ATI - What does this mean for PC gaming

AMD will be in a pretty interesting position when it comes to archictecture for the next generation, post PS3 consoles.

Now all we need is for Dell to buy AMD and we'll be back to the good old days when PC manufacturers were deverloping processors and PC internals.
 
I'm just thinking one thing.
anyone remeber what 3Dfx did just BEFORE the Voodoo 3s etc came out and everything started going wrong?
