AMD build all sorts of issues etc....

Hi All,

I have just moved onto an all AMD build from intel based mobo and CPU now I'm getting all sorts of issues.

first up spec's:

Asus rog b450-i
ryzen 3600
radeon 5700 (Reference not FE. Definitely not an FE)
team group 8 pack 3200 ram (2x8gb)
sf750 psu
wd SSD.

The problems....

after driver installs wattman initially works for a few seconds. It then judders can't get information and HDMI audio drops. following this the fans sound like they are ramping from 1000 to 1500 rpm. Any 3d programs run very poorly. if at all. Some times it will run and the BSOD with driver file issues.

The non solutions....

Latest mobo firmware.

Clean installs of windows and full updates. Created new bootable media with latest build.

fully updated windows before driver installs.

have tried latest graphics drivers and the 19.7.3 drivers.

have tried using the Asus grid software have also disabled it through the bios to make sure and installed without. (looks like junk software to me!)

Have tried using the DSIM refresh and scans all return ok.

have used DDU on several occasions and tried reinstalling.

I have ordered a ryzen 1200 and another motherboard from amazon to be here tomorrow to try to rule out hardware issues. I have run each RAM module on its own to rule out RAM issue. The GPU worked well previous to this on a q87 4770 bundle (so 90% sure its not GPU hardware.)

So I'm turning to the internet for any clever suggestions that I may be blindly overlooking.....

next on list to try tomorrow.... Older chipset drivers, new mobo, new cpu. Then I'm really stuck.... Ive also asked around to see if anybody local has a GPU to borrow to fault check that.....

This is why I went apple for 10 years.

:(

I didn’t go back driver by driver, just chose third on the list.

Just checked,

19.7.3

I’ll edit first post

Might try each at a time

First off is your motherboard patched for the 3600? Have you installed the latest chipset drivers also?
Second. Use DDU in safe mode and wipe the GPU AMD drivers. Install 19.7.3 or 19.8.1 without Relive. Make sure DDU is set to force windows NOT installing automatically drivers.

Except if you haven't connected something correctly, which apparently you imply by saying you had Apple for 10 years.

Double checked connections, re-seated CPU. Used DDU safe mode and not to auto install drivers. Mobo’ won’t post without latest bios/patch. This has been done via bios based internet update as well as by usb drive.

Installed chipset drivers, then added the new patch for the ‘destiny2’ fix.

First off is logical your motherboard won't post without latest bios, because it doesn't supports the 3600 CPU without it.
Seems you are fiddling with things you shouldn't

FYI by power connectors, I refer to not use any kind of power splitters.
And that you have connected ALL the power cables both on the motherboard & GPU.

you asked if my board was patched? I replied that it wouldn't post if it wasn't, and had explained a few situations where i have installed drivers... which would need the computer to post to windows to do so etc... so not sure why you're trying to make me out as silly.

I'm using the corsair supplied cables not using splitters, direct from the PSU all having their own rail. The PSU has enough juice (750w) as it ran a 4770 on a q87 which draws a bit more power with no issues.

I'll also add that after each bios update and attempt at install I completed a bios reset with the board based jumper.

Thank you for helping :) its always worth double checking.

Have you tried display port? I'd also look through the bios, make sure all the settings are in order, maybe there's something screwy happening with the GPU's PCI-E Express settings. Also check all the power settings in both bios & windows. Could also be that your PCI-E slot is borked, but hard to say. It's good you'll be able to rule them out soon enough though, I do sense that it might be a mobo issue.

Where is local? Always happy to help trouble shoot a build if you need spare hardware. :)

Edit: Could just be a faulty graphics card.

Appreciate the offer, based between hull and York so a little far away :(

Tried adjusting ram setting early on but with the issues switched back to standard, 2400 16cas.

I’ve had a check through bios in case there was a snag with pcie4.0 and the recent patches, no luck but will go back through just in case.

Ok solved.

So I’ve forced Gen3 PCIE3. Gen4 is still an option, even tho it’s not supported anymore. It was always just set as auto so never dug in. Went into the list selected gen3 for all the PCIE ports. Worked first time.

Thanks for the help guys. Now to cancel the orders.
