Hey guys/Ocuk

I have been planning a build for a while now, within a budget. I had been looking since around Oct  (whilst trying to see what FM2+ was like) I did look into Intel, but for the cost and with bills and stuff it really pushed me beyond what i could afford at this time, so i went back to my original plan of the 6300 but managing to push for a gpu aswell. Although i do have a few questions, possibly! :p The build constructed was :

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte Radeon R9 270 OC 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £142.99
1 x AMD Piledriver FX-6 Six Core 6300 Black Edition 3.50GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail £89.99
1 x Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0 AMD 970 (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard £74.99
1 x Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-Bit DVD - OEM (WN7-00614) £74.99
1 x Kingston HyperX Genesis 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (KHX1600C9D3K2/8GX) £65.99
1 x SuperFlower Golden Green HX 550W "80 Plus Gold" Power Supply - Black £59.99
1 x Western Digital Caviar Blue 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache WD10EZEX - OEM ** Single Platter ** HDD £52.99
Total : £571.52 (includes shipping : £8.00).

This build goes a bit beyond what i was originally going to go for (was going to use my old gpu) but with it being a bit over, i managed to include a r9 270 so thought it was worth it. The evo board for the good power phases mainly, i was looking at the 970a-ud3p, and it looked pretty good but after thinking about it (and some people, though not all ofc having a few issues with it) i went back to the asus (Just asus rma scares the hell outta me lol :p) The Gpu i was very tempted with Msi's, but with some of them possibly leaking/fan failing i went for a Gigabyte.

One question is, the 6300 will be great (coming from lga775) and will no doubt sort me out, but should i push for the 8320 at £30 more (or stay with the 6300 and get a cooler for that £30) Or save the £30 and keep the 6300 at stock for a few months, with general bills/living.

Also, i was looking at various coolers but wanted to ask with the Coolermaster evo, can you slide the clips down to let the fans blow under and over the Vrm's? I ask this mainly because the other coolers had the metal clips that didn't look like you could lower where the fan was.

Thanks for reading and any replies though guys!

Great looking spec.

I've not used a cooler master evo so don't know if the fan will go up or down. But surely there must be plenty of reviews with clear pics of the parts to help you judge if it will.

As for a 8320 vs 6300+cooler. I think I would go for the later as the stock amd coolers are small and noisy.

There is a BF4 CPU scaling chart floating around and in it the 6300 does well.

If you're willing to spread the cost you could always use a three month free trial of Windows and put the £75 into components.

Hey Stulid, yea i was checking out reviews mainly of the thermalrights/ alpenföhn's mainly but then thought about the possible Vrm cooling. I shall have a look more into it, although it does look possible *maybe* from the clip being movable i think.

Yeah, it's a choice i have been mulling over for a while with the 8320/6300 as i've pushed the budget a bit higher each time. The 6300 has matured into a really nice chip, it was just with the 8core being quite close in price. But yea, you're right with not having to worry/deal with the stock cooler at a later date (and i'd have to buy that no matter what for when i tried to Oc)

Thanks for your input Stulid!

Tbf if I were you I'd go 8320 + a boggo standard cooler, better in the long run

Hey Shivy, yea it's a tough call with my costs rising ;) i keep pricing up the 6300, then looking at the 8core afterwards. It's one of my main should i/shouldn't i, thoughts. :p

Hey Fulax, i would have considered that but i wanted to get as much as i could/barebones, just with bills/life (other things needed in the future such as mouse/headphones) and planning to go away with my other half soon. Otherwise that is a great idea and have contemplated it. I'm still on xp so really need to sort out a new stable os. ;)

The Evo has the same fan brackets as the 612S, so yes, you can slide the fan down, but not that much.

Hey Idleman :)

Ah that's excellent, thanks for that really appreciated. It's really turned me towards the hyper evo for being able to do that. I looked for a while, but my google-ing powers are worn out atm, so couldn't think what to type as i searched!

thanks for the replies though guys! :D

I'd say go for the msi r9 270, it uses only one 6 pin pcie cable unlike all the other, then I'd switch out to a much lower wattage psu like 400-500w and save some more money.

P.s sorry stulid I know

Hey idleman, yeah that's cool. It was why i was in such a dilemma between those cpu's for £30 difference (or the cost of the cooler etc...) If i could go further a little bit, i should probably try for the 8core it was just the cost adding up each time mainly (with needing other things on a list, but further down). I looked at the Gigabytes r9 mostly for the uk rma service (i was in two minds about Gigabytes or Msi's gpu) It's a shame that card doesn't come with the Bf4 code.

Hey Danewesley, that's cool. I was looking heavily at the MSI card, it was just with this recent batch going a bit fubar, i veered towards Gigabyte without hopefully having to worry/check the shroud, etc... It is a very nice card. I was looking at mainly for Psu's, superflower/seasonic or xfx (only lastly due to customer service) For around the 500w mark.

I appreciate all of the replies though, just finally setting this down before i pull the trigger, so to speak.

Yeh like idlemans, but I'd get like the evga 500w bronze psu for £39.99 and get an aftermarket CPU cooler with the rest.

Yea, it is something i could consider and i appreciate the help dane! I think though i would probably try to push for a Seasonic/Superflower mainly for how well they perform in comparison to price/capacitors. I've seen a lot of recommendations on the EVGA, but should look into that more/one last time.

I've been going through my final build (yet again) i'd like to ask if possible, what would you choose out of the 8320 or 6300? This would be £30 or so difference for those chips. I would be gaming mainly, but having things like steam/skype open etc... Games varying from all genres, but Bf4 aswell. It made me wonder as games such as Watchdogs/Bf4 using more of the cores now or in the future, possibly.

So it could be say a 6300 and a cooler straight away, or the 8320 with stock cooling until i get a cooler a few weeks down the line. What would you guys do? I feel in quite a dilemma, as that £30 could get me a new mouse etc... or i could just get the 8320 with it hopefully lasting a little longer (i probably won't upgrade for a while)

Hey dacads, yeah... it's left me feeling quite in a dilemma, with the 8320 pretty close. It doesn't help my headphones packed up the other week and currently using (quite literally) poundland jobbies at the minute

Although if i did grab the 8320 i'd be sorted and then slowly concentrate on the smaller other things. I do like the 6300 and can see how great it is for the price, it keeps making me price things up two ways and looking at it both ways. Also with me not going to (hopefully) upgrade for a fair while.

I'm so bad at decisions! :o

Hey Rob! That Sabertooth is tempting:p But ill probably sink the cash into a new board, albeit with not quite as much oc'ing ability as that it's still quite a nice overclockable board. But! That is two people saying 8320 now ;)

Yeah the 8320 is a really good bet. They can be clocked pretty much as high as the 8350. I don't know all technical details but from what I've read on here its basically a lower stock clocked 8350

Yep good advice ^ they are effectively cheaper, and lower stock clocks and can also be clocked above the 8350
