AMD Bulldozer FX-8 Causing Stutters or Mobo?

Did you pay 60 quid for that psu? I suggest returning it and get a decent psu.
If you bought your psu from that high street ele'x store try to return it and get a refund if possible especially if it still under dsr time limit and get a decent psu like this Corsair Builder Series CX 600W V2 .

Your mobo may also be not up to the job of supplying enough juice to your 8120.

If you want to get a new mobo I suggest this one Asus M5A97 EVO R2.0 it got a decent VRM with heatsink and supports up to 140W.

If you want to check if your system is throttling, run prime alongside coretemp and see if the Freq./speed jumps around.

See here how mine throttles .

Thanks for the links. Is it nessessary to get a new PSU I mean could that be a more likely culprit than the motherboard or should I get both? I dunno what to do to be honest, would overclockers accept an item back if I bought it and it turned out to be no different?

Go intel and all problems will be solved. I was having the same situation as you so I sold all my amd gear and went intel. Same mobo and cpu as you aswell.

Now its all gone, no more stutter.

But if you want to try the cheaper option then try a better mobo first :)

Okay so I ran Prime along side CoreTemp and it didn't quite change in freq./speed as much as yours did but it did idle at 1406.25 then jump up to 3114.05 and some went up to 2812.69 but there didn't seem much order to it. each core were just randomly jumping to those numbers every half a minute or so.

And if I did switch over to Intel I might end up making the same mistake anyway since I know nothing about Intel nor do I have the money at the moment sadly. Although I shouldn't need to switch to be honest been with AMD all my life and I haven't had a problem once except now.

Okay so looking at two possible motherboards since it's looking like my only option really to try something.

or theres this one a weekly deal too at the moment, how is this one? Its a 990FX board so should be better right?

also would the PSU cause stuttering effects in my games, would it be worth trying another PSU?

I would avoid that asrock 990FX as it is known to throttle high tdp cpus. The asus "should" be good but i couldn't be certain. Another option for you would be the gigabyte 990X.

Okay so today I tried switching graphics card to try an older one but that had no change so I then switched my PSU to a Corsair CX750M and the old graphics card stayed in.

That didn't make a difference either, I even tried switching the slots the RAM was in but that hasn't changed.

In The Secret World it seems that the fps goes high to about 40-60 but then suddenly drops to under 20 (under 10 on high settings) for about 20-30 seconds then goes back up to normal is this a case of throttling?

But otherwise I think I'm going to order the ASUS M5A97 EVO R2.0 970 if anyone has any other recommendations or possible solutions before I order that'll be great.

Hey all again.

The ASUS M5A97 EVO R2.0 970 arrived and got it installed and reinstalled Windows.

So far everything seems to be working just perfectly now. SimCity, Final Fantasy XIV, Secret World, Dishonored all run on Ultra with no problems at all and no stuttering.

The computer itself finally feels like it has an 8 core processor in, games installed much quicker and things just work fluently now.

So thank you all for the help finally glad it's working.

I think I may be having this same issue.

Tempted to buy some Intel kit and be done with it if I'm gonna have to re-install :(

I'm also struggling with overclocking, but I hadn't tried too hard with the overclocking due to this stuttering issue.

It really is a minefield trying to find a am3 board that doesn't have throttling issues, even some pricey ones do it.

Ive dabbled with FX stuff in the past and have found the same things. very frustrating.

Ah that sucks like I say this motherboard worked for me it solved completely the stuttering issues I've had. Can't say it'll work for you but it may be looking into.
