You will get multiple Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Programs and Features enteritises and it has been known to cause uninstall errors.

Maybe he's confusing catalyst driver releases with the CAPs? The drivers are fine to install over the old ones.

Possibly.

I know that used to be the case for hotfix drivers ONLY, but i wouldn't recommend people to install drivers over drivers any more.

For a start you'll just be wasting hard drive space as those old drivers will take up space each time you add another set without un-installing the old set.

That could easily end up leading to issues as you might get different drivers conflicting with each other.

Uninstall driver>sweep with driver fusion>install the new driver is the way i do it and ive never had any problems.

But hey, each to their own.

Sweeping older drivers away can cause some big headaches for people.

You shouldn't expect anything like conflicting drivers, as the actual driver inf files are replaced, rather than installed along side, so the old driver files get replaced, and there'd be nothing to conflict with.

The problems come from complete removal of a working driver, because windows sometimes tries to install its own one, and then it can be a hassle getting the latest driver to install after that.

As far as I know, AMD actually suggest installing new drivers over old themselves.

Incorrect.

They used to suggest that for hotfix drivers only that corrected bugs in the official release. No more though.

If you run a driver sweeper in safe mode you will not encounter any problems.

This is AMD's guide on how to install & un-install drivers. No where does it say install drivers on top of each other. :)

No, i was talking about the CAPS. This is the first thread I've ever read where the advice has NOT been "Yes, it's fine to install CAPS over existing ones." There have been other threads on OCUK, where that quote has been the standard advice.

Back when rage3ed had early access to amd driver and caqps releases, they had put together an official FAQ which says this:
"I have an older Application Profile update, what should I do?
It can be left installed without any problems. However, uninstalling from Add/Remove programs takes mere seconds and doesn't require a reboot.

Now, advice may have changed since then, but I have never heard of multiple profiles causing issues. Now, I'm not saying they don't cause issues, just that I have never heard of them. Got links?
