The announcement comes as a complete surprise: there were no rumblings of major changes in upper management on the rumor mill, and no knowledge of personal or medical issues that would cause Meyer to suddenly resign. Neither AMD nor Meyer have given a reason for the sudden departure. The resignation comes on the heels of the successful launch of AMD's first Fusion processors for netbooks and ultraportable laptops. AMD's stock has started to fall in after-hours trading, following the announcement.

Seems slightly random, does he know something we don't??:p

I guess I could have put this under CPU as well, but ah well.

Not everything, their GPUs have been fine the past few years.

Can't see why he would resign... unless Bulldozer can't compete with Sandybridge!? Or something more personal...

CEO departing means one of two things.
i). Better job offer elsewhere.
ii). Has led the company down the wrong path.

Let's see if he picks up a new role soon.

  • Poor 69## generation cards?
  • Bulldozer will be a flop?
  • Release of the extremely fast Sandy Bridge?
  • Unable to produce squat (ie Global Foundries)
  • Resurgance of Nvidia / ARM CPU?
  • Intel and Nvidia in bed, cross-licensing agreement
Take your pick?

Well its not because of any of the bottom three and ATI seem to be shifting huge amount of 6900 cards.

The timing is very strange though with the all new northern islands cards just round the corner, and ATI just about to take the fastest GPU crown, although it has been a while since ATI put much value to titles. I would have at least waited until after the HD6990 and then gone when people started to focus on the 7000 cards.

Take the fastest GPU crown? what card is that then.

AMD are saying he got the boot because they are not happy with profits and their lowly position in the market.

The company said the change would help it "establish market leadership and generate superior financial returns.

I think he's getting the boot because AMD's CPU division has been not nearly aggressive enough in its launch schedule. I mean they're still producing CPUs on (a revision of) the K10 architecture that failed to be competitive when it first launched over 3 years ago.

  •

Poor because bs rumours made it out to be something it wasn't? Its not like the 580 is a massive leap over the 480 either but people just focus on the 6970 because of the hype bandwagon that grew out of unfounded bs.
