Thinking about getting a new processor in January. Currently using a Phenom II 850, been pretty solid on many of the games I play but think its time for an upgrade. Been looking at the 8150 at for £137, was also going to match it up with a Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro Rev 2 < Not too sure about the clearance with my case and RAM.
I have no intention of overclocking with this mobo as its a low budget board (see sig), Just thought it would be better as stock coolers sawk and I've heard these Bulldozers get hot even on stock settings.
PS. I'm looking for help with an AMD upgrade not people saying "Go Intel".

Cheers.

Yeah, the FX8320 even with the lower clock is superior CPU and can be had for 120 most of the time.
Best of a bad bunch price/performance wise of the CPU's in its budget range (Intel CPU's included in that)

Yeah, Also what about the clearance with the cooler? I'm slightly tempted to upgrade my case. The CM Elite 430 has poor cable management, even with my modular PSU its still cramped.

Ah right, I've checked on the Asus website, My mobo is compatible according to it.

Upgrade your BIOS with your current CPU in situ before you fit the new FX in any case ;)

The Freezer 7 Pro R2 looks like it gives decent clearance to all but the tallest RAM from a quick look on google images. You could get a ruler out and do some guestimations - It has a 92mm fan (diagonal) and is 108 (L) x 96 (W) x 127 (H) mm,

When i first got a fx8120 a while ago i was running it on that same motherboard @4.2 no problems, infact it ran higher on that board then the motherboard i upgraded to after so dont think just because its an older budget board that you have to forget overclocking

Yeah, I think I'll just upgrade the bios and see what my budget allows me to get. Either way the 8120 or 8320 will be much better than a phenom 850 lol. Might grab a new case too, Aerocool X-Predator Ultimate Gaming Windowed Case or NZXT 410?

The Freezer 7 cooler should be fine with your current case, it's a pretty small CPU cooler compared to the more expensive ones.
