As part of our continued commitment to you, our channel partners, we are providing this e-bulletin to communicate breaking news between issues of our monthly e-newsletter, the Tigon. We know how much email we all receive, so we will only send bulletins like this one when we have important and time-sensitive information to share with you that we feel will help you market and sell AMD-based products.

Desktop Price Move Announcement

One of our main goals is to help you manage your business more efficiently by keeping you informed of changes that could affect your purchasing decisions and sales forecast. One such change will be announced on July 9th, when the AMD desktop processor family will have a reduction in suggested prices. Savings for the AMD Athlon™ 64 X2 (dual-core) processor family will be about 20% and the AMD Athlon 64 (single-core) processor family will be adjusted by approximately 15%. If you are looking for a great value, look to the AMD Sempron™ processor, which will also offer savings of about 15%.

These new prices will enable you to offer your clients AMD-based desktop solutions with a true price/performance advantage at an even more competitive price. Please contact your authorized AMD distributor for specific pricing and availability details.

Just to give you an idea around 20% off will make a retail AM2 X2 6000+ around <£120. OEM will be around ~£100 both Inc VAT.

Saving over £20 on all CPUs over £100. Which is currently X2 5200, 5400, 5600 and 6000.

Ohhhhhhhhh, why didnt they release them on 939...I'd be tempted then! =[

Meh!

Still, its good for people who are on AM2 already.

still not worth buying from my point of view

apart from perhaps 1% of users, the lowest end processor of either AMD or intel would do.

does it really matter if you have an x2 3800+ or a Q6600 if your reading a website, watching a dvd or using MS word? or just idling which is where 99% of computers spend 99% of their lives

Jesus, the way some people go on around here you'd think the AMD CPU's were absolutely rubbish, incapable of handling notepad and internet explorer, let alone some mild gaming...
The X2's at 3ghz are still pretty tasty, I'll happily take one if they come down to £100.

Haha :D :D

Their is nothing wrong with AMD if your going to leave everything at stock. Not everyone will be clocking their CPUs.

Because the average user has no idea of what overclocking is, let alone how to do it. For a workstation or media PC, the AM2 CPUs are very attractive.

EDIT: Wow, 3x instapost. That hurts.

great...for budget PC's AMD is a good option...but ONLY if you don't have the extra cash on you at all! To just save some money I don't think it's worth it to choose AMD over Intel...

That'd be my motherboard out the window then... Thus saving nothing, actually, costing more and causing a whole lot more hassle when I have to re-install windows.

well if you already have AM2 then this does not concern you.

Don't go down that route of the good old "I will have to install windows nonsense" please...

You know I am right so just get on with it.

I tend to agree...I went from a x2 4400+ at 3.03ghz to a e6300 and wasn't really expecting a huge difference....and the difference isn't HUGE...but it certainly is significant...especially in quake 4....I used to get into very large CTF multiplayer fights and my FPS would drop down to around 40-45 on occasion....now it never drops below 60....

That was a bit surprising as I thought it was my old GPU....but I guess it was my processor calculating all those explosions and players moving around the screen

When AMD introduce these new prices, If a guy wants a pc and will be leaving everything at stock = not overclocking :p and is looking to spend 120 pounds, what would you recomend?
