I thought this was a nice touch for us ATI/AMD GPU users......as long as Steam did not automatically update them. I thought this was the case until just now.

To my horror, Steam has just decided to update them without asking my permission!

Why the hell is it doing this?

Steam Download them automatically in the background last night but did not install them.

If you click check for Video driver updates it will install them automatically.

can't find the option to turn the updates off.. how to I do that please? (because anything better than 10.5a is cack for me.)

I've always found this paranoia towards driver and Windows updates hilarious. Especially with driver updates when they can always be undone rather easily.

Because I don't want the hassle of having to undo it. There should be an opt-out option.

You gave it permission when you asked it to update your drivers.
I didn't & it didn't.

Indeed, the same with me.
It doesn't do it unless you ask it to.

I find it amusing people click a button to find latest drivers, then complain when it installs them. As if they wish to find new drivers, be informed they are out of date and sit there doing nothing.

This was a thread several weeks ago also, a search would have found it, and reading said thread would have saved the OP from the insanity of being up to date ;)

Really can't understand the attitudes of some people in this thread... people might find one driver works well for them, but the latest is bad, but want to check now and again to see if theres a newer driver than the last bad one they tested and not install the latest driver if its still the same old bad driver... neither do people expect clicking on a generically named button to act like a check box... the implementation in steam is bad and needs reworking.

Thanks. You have explained it a bit better than me. My point is that I always like to wait a few days after a driver release to see if there are any issues. I have been affected in the past by driver issues with some games I play.

Like this for instance which happened with the 10.5's. :)

The attitude comes from the fact that there are better ways to check for updates like we have always done in the past.

But steam video update is a new addition & people will learn quick enough not to click it unless your going all the way. :D

Then whats the point of it in steam? I thought it was so people could conveniently and simply update their drivers? and part of that "updating" process is deciding which are the best drivers for you. Or are your saying that ATI drivers never have any problems and people should just update to the latest ones all the time?

I've decided that im not going to update my Gfx card drivers past 10.9 with my current 4850..

There really is no point now, you can tell from the release notes that they have now bypassed the 4xxx cards in terms of feature updates and performance increases....

Everything works nicely for me with the 10.9's.....so why risk the hassle...
