I know drivers can be inconsistent and AMD have had their points in time where drivers have been amazing and points when they have been rubbish.

How do they fare these days?

IMO nvidia drivers at the moment are crap. I've had issues with games and now I tend not to update unless I'm having issues. Leave them alone as the updates tend to do more harm than good.

AMD drivers are generally really good, they help get the most from the hardware, compared to Nvidia.

However due to their $$$ resources, AMD driver bugs can take a bit longer to resolve, so I just use the previous driver release and never really had any issues. Basically I'm 1 driver behind the "new" driver that's released.

AMD drivers are fine. Far superior to Nvidia ones for quite a few years also.

AMD drivers as far as stability is concern is fine.
They do offer more creature comforts and yet they tend to update the Graphic User Interface to make it look more modern.
For performance they have a tendency to release year end performance boosts. While still providing performance boosts throughout the year.

Right now, they are working with RDNA Uarch., which is different from GCN which hasn't been fully optimized as of yet. So I would anticipate a performance boost driver for that by years end.
