Hello guys

I am wondering whats the best settings to have for my cpu to over clock it, i currently have the 2.6ghz overclocked to 3.0ghz by making the multiplier 15.

I have heard however this is not the best way as im not increasing the FSB im not overclocking the memory as well

Id be game to do this but when ever i fiddle with the FSB i get a lot of BSOD. my ram is extra value 800mhz 4 gig.

Any ideas please?

that's the whole point of the BE; to raise the multiplier and not have to raise the FSB. By taking her to 15, you've done the right thing.

What black edition do you have? i would assume the 5000+ Black Edition.

nope... as far as i know, it's better to use a multiplier based OC than an FSB based one... remember, once you get into memory OCing, you have to deal with voltages, timings, etc... i find that messy :P.

this way, you can get the increased performance without having to stress or maybe damage other components.

FSB/HT+memory overclocking is generally better for performance than multi (even if it's a more refined art) purely because the entire system speeds up, rather than just the CPU.

The best way to work with processers is to try and get the HT speed increased in conjunction with memory frequency.

problem there is i really have no idea what im doing with all the settings i need, and when you ask anyone what you need to do they make is sounds more complicated than i can follow,
or stuff doesnt match up to what they said and im left stareing at my bios saying, where the frag is this option they are talking about.

So just want to find some one/something that says,
Muliplier should be this ....
fsb this....
voltage this....
HT this...

i appriciate it is complicated but i have been reading about overclocking and attempting it for 2 months now and all i understand is the multiplyer

I'm kinda the same as you mate, I managed to get mine to 3.1 (sometimes 2 for a while) as stable @ 15.5x - 16x.
The highest I can go on FSB is like 208 before i get BSODS, but then again i'm not tampering with my memory either.

im guessing the FSB does not like being played with when the multiplier is so high. does that mean 208x15.5? Logic tells me thats a lot of multiplying and it might not like it??

Maybe if we set the multiplier to 10 and then play around with the FSB? ill give it a go tonight when i get in from work.

Any 1 recemend a good program for checking stability? cos if i play games ill just get angry when it crashes.

Read the overclocking sticky: that does explain pretty much everything you need to know.

Overclocking is different for each person, due to variances in system components, but the methodology behind it is identical, regardless of platform.

The CPU will need 1.4V or more to do 3.2Ghz or more, unless you are very lucky with your CPU.

I think we will need more information on your system to help you get more speed out of it. Most 5000+BE CPUs max out around 3.3-3.4Ghz.

what information would you like?

AMD black +5000 duel core

Asus republic of gamers crosshair MB

8800gtx 768 mb ddr3 oem

4 sticks of 1 gig extra value ram 800mhz

The only thing i have over clocked is the multiplier to 15 as i then get 3.0ghz and its rock solid but i hear it can go to 16, but its unstable even if i fiddle with voltages, but im so dam scared of breaking it with the voltage i only increase it to 1.4600 or something before i wont go further.
What is the voltage i dont want to go near, i know it can vary but what is considered dangerous to the cpu?

Have the multiplier at 15 and start overclocking the FSB from there.

As you have an unlocked multi, you have the best of both worlds and can refine your OC to be as ideal as possible.

What steppings do most of the 5000BE's use?
Most are G2 stepping CPUs. I believe some very early ones were G1, but there shouldn't be any of those left at retail.

Regarding voltage, I wouldn't go higher than one that produces temperatures of over 60 degrees when under load in Orthos or OCCT etc. 1.45V is my personal max, although obviously my CPU is different to yours.

Your RAM might be holding you back, so reduce the HT multiplier to 4 and set the RAM divider to 667Mhz. You should then be able to increase the HTT (FSB) speed. 4 sticks of RAM shouldn't really affect your overclocking in any way. What voltage is your RAM running at? What make is the RAM?
