Im a bit fed up with my GTX680, i've had issues with it for both BF3 and BF4 where i always have micro stutters regardless of graphical settings or drivers used.

So id like to know if i sold my GTX680 what would be the AMD equivelant to replace it with ? i don't want to spend any extra money other than the money i make from the sale of the 680 so keep that in mind.

Thanks

Thanks, my friends identicle system (only with a 6950) runs both Battlefield games smoothly whereas mine stutters non stop.

If you can get over £200 for your gtx680 then you can get a 7970/r9 280x which are both the same card and a little faster than the gtx680. If under £200 then you need a 7950 which when overclocked will match a gtx680 overclocked. Second hand prices on gtx680 have went way down recently so you are probably looking at a 7950 which tbh is a great card. BF4 has just been released and a lot of people are reporting it's buggy so it could be best to wait for a patch to see if that fixes your problem.

^^ That won't happen, as OcUK had 680's for under £200 not so long ago. I feel it would be a mistake to swap out a 680 for a 7970/280X and you could end up regretting it but the choice is yours :)

well i made the plunge and got the R9 280X to replace the 680, should be delivered tomorrow. I won't get rid of the 680 until i've tested the R9 280x to see if it eliminates these massive stutters/fps drops i've had in battlefield 3 and 4 since switching to Nvidia about a year and a half ago

Why would he regret getting a better card with an extra 1GB of VRAM especially when he playing BF4 which is very heavy on VRAM and recommended VRAM for that GAME is 3GB?

I was comparing BF3 - 7970 against a 680 and the 7970 was leading by a couple of frames. The sell on would be a hit that isnt viable and the fact the OP has stuttering, which tells me there is a problem with something other than the card and swapping it for a 7970 wouldnt possibly be the cure.

If you think selling a 680 to get a 7970 is worth it because the GAME recommends 3GB 660/7790 (or something like that), I would end up scratching my head a bit. I could understand going for a 780 or a 290/X as an upgrade choice but a side grade is what the OP is doing but that is his choice :)

I don't want an upgrade, I want a sidegrade cause I'm fed up with my 680 running like poo with battlefield games, it's been this way with every drive released since 306.97.

He said the micro-stutter problems started when he switched to NV. So MS can't have been a problem before that. He could side grade if he wished to reasonably cheaply, he could buy a 2nd hand 7970. At worst he's got another 1GB of VRAM. If he's had MS problems when switching to NV, why would he buy a 780?

Makes no sense.

Let us know how you got on.

OP isn't running SLI so it's not micro-stutter he's experiencing, it's either drivers/settings/windows/hardware related, some of which would mean swapping a card would likely still present the same problem.

I would recommend trying to find the cause of the issue first, the 680 can run BF3 easily so the fact you're having problems indicates a deeper issue other than basic compatibility.

What's your system spec OP and what resolution are you playing at, and is it only BF games you experience issues with? Are your Origin Games installed on a diff HDD/SSD to Steam/Others?

I have never had any stutter on my 670, If i swap to a 7950 i wonder if i start getting stutter. Might try it.

Jaynos what cpu are you running? Please dont say a E6600 or something.:)

I5 2400k @ 3.2ghz

Used to run BF3 on ultra nice and smooth with a 6950, upgraded to a 680, worked ok. Then updated to a driver version past 306.97 and ever since then BF3 has been a stuttery mess. BF4 is exactly the same only it now also stutters on 306.97 drivers.

Every other game runs fine, it's just BF3 and BF4 which stutter and have huge fps dips.

Running normal 7200 hd, running at 1080p

Decent enough cpu to be fair, Very strange though that all other games are fine. I would get 7970 or r280 then especially if you play a lot of bf4.

Weird how you are getting them issues, 680 is a nice card!

But you will not be disappointed with a 280x that's for sure. Which one did you get?
