*** AMD FRIDAY: SO WHO WANTS A FREE BURGER & SOME EPIC AMD DEALS??? ***

Thought I'd just been unlucky. Seems quite common judging from a quick google search. Mine is the HIS 7950 and it whines like mad on skyrim. I've read that limiting the fps to 60 can really help eliminate it. Some have also suggested just letting it run on a games menu over night can get rid as well. Never had a good chance to try last night.
Would excessive coil whine be a reason to RMA?

Glad I went for the Asus GTX 670 4GB just now instead of the HIS 7950, would hate to get a whiner.

Eventually got my card yesterday, my lovely wife was home.

Man the 7950 is mahoosive compared to my old gtx460 there wasn't much space available. Loaded up Planetside 2 Ultra Quality 1920x1200 1080p, all i can say is wow the world detail was crisp even the lighting looked awsome no slow down at all, i did turn shadows to medium and blur off as they are a process whore.

Cheers Overclockers this card is a bang for a buck

Eventually may even go crossfire

2 7950's 6gb with both 384 bit memory, the ultimate gaming rig :)

I believe coil whine is a reason to RMA, but if it's within 7 days you can DSR it. Do you need to though?

With vsync on on older games, or any modern game, mine is silent (MSI BTW). There is also some thoughts that it could be a PSU whine, hece the recommendations to listen through a straw at each capacitor.

You're a whiner. Only joking. Coil whine isn't brand specific.

Just received my Crisis 3 and Bioshock Infinite codes now, I did email AMD about it (they didn't actually reply though) so not sure if that helped move things along.

I've just received my Crysis 3 and Bioshock Infinite codes from AMD, after registering on Monday.

^ :) fancy that!

Think I might have to send AMD another email, as I still haven't received my Bioshock code after more than 4 weeks .

Mr Gibbo are you aware of this on your website. Looks kinda funky on my 1440p monitor. Happens with all of the backgrounds on the website.

Still waiting for my Bioshock code. I didn't get a reply to my follow up email last week but I will have to send another one, just so I can tell them to use a different email address when they do eventually send it. It has been a right P.I.T.A changing everything over because O2 are shutting down their mail.

Just think how little you need to spend to get a working system:

AMD 760K @ 4.5ghz
Asus uATX FM2 mobo
HD7950 BE
8GB DDR3

You could throw the whole thing together for £500.

Is it true that a 7950 can be unlocked to a 7970? In which case the 3gb 7950 would unlock to the same performance as the 3gb twin frozr 7970 but a £90 saving?

I don't believe this is true, or never come across anything to suggest it is possible. Overclocking some to similar speeds, maybe, but unlocking "hidden" processor cores isn't something I've seen anywhere with them.
Would be interested in hearing that I'm wrong though as I have a 7950.

It was 6950's, I thought it was 7950's, oops!
