AMD Fury x2 Demoed at V-R conference

One and a half pages later and as usual nobody actually read the links stated to see if its true or not.
The picture IS fan made I read the articles.

Beany Bot where have you been living under a rock ? The 295x2 has been out for ages !!!

As it's two cards in one shell, does this suffer all the same issues Crossfire / SLI does in terms of waiting for drivers to mature each time a new game lands?

My issue;

I've pre-ordered an Oculus Rift, my PC meets the requirements and i currently run a 290x.

Irrespective of the cost - i'll happily pay £800 on a card - i want the best experience possible on VR. I also don't care whether it's Nvidia or AMD, whatever gives me the best performance. Also being sensible, knowing Pascal could this year.I don't want to buy an 980Ti for the sake of a few months using the 290x.

So i've got two options in my mind, when they arrive;

- Buy Pascals best single card solution
- Buy the Fury X2

Problem is, i purposefully avoid SLI / Crossfire due to drivers. I don't want a VR game to come out and not be able to utilize the full power till drivers resolve it, would frustrate me to much.

Annoying!

I thought they had already, NVIDIA have that as part of gameworksVR as well

ofc it works with sli too, what i mean to say is that big part of the dual Fiji marketing will be focused on VR, and it's always easier to push you to buy 1 card(dual gpu) than asking you to buy a 2nd card( sli/croosfire).
i dont know if it's technicaly possible, but would be worth the wait if they managed to swap HBM1 to HBM2 on the chips.

Polaris might be the better option. I would stick with your 290x until Nvidia or Amd jump with there next generation. While the Fury X2 is an interesting card i would not want to blow loads of cash on it as the next Gen should be true dx12 cards.

It is good marketing from AMD if they release this before OR/Vive and market it as "The card for VR".

It'll be interesting to see if LiquidVR and/or GameworksVR (aka using 'one card per eye' on dual gpu setups) requires support in each game, or whether they can incorporate it into the Oculus or Steam VR SDK's.

If they can get it integrated into the SDK's then that is huge, the theoretical benefits would make a dual-gpu card the best choice for VR, if it's on a per game basis then forget it essentially...

Maybe they have been stockpiling them to avoid the lack of stock that the original Fury X launch suffered from, especially now that they do seem to be producing more Fury/HBM chips. I suppose it would be better for them to use two sets of fury chips on a "New" X2 card than put them onto two "older" fury cards.

Also do you think that both Nvidia and AMD/RTG will up their game in the Xfire/SLI driver department as all this talk of VR and having at least two cards to really do it justice is kinda rife at the moment.

I think they would be insane not to concentrate on MGPU drivers now that VR is almost upon us. If Raj Koduri can get them to nail these MGPU drivers then I think it could very well be a turning point for AMD/RTG.

Both sides should be ashamed of their Pi** Poor Performance in the Xfire/SLI arena IMHO and both are as bad as each other.
:rolleyes:

That has been their intention for the last few months. Hence delaying xmas release date.
These are sitting in a warehouse somewhere ready to ship I am sure of it.

Well I certianly am not a salesman but I am sure if they were ready, they would have launched the same day as the OR went live on pre-orders. Even OcUK went straight in with their VR ready machines which to me was a great tactic.

In theory, trouble is that developers seem to be targetting the GTX 970 as the card that most people will be using for VR , and I've been told that a lot of optimizations are yet to be deployed to optimize for that particular graphics card

I mean look at Gear VR, it runs on a phone

Errr. No

For example, Oculus, and it seems Vive too asfetr the Demo is using AMD as there preferred partner.

But there will be an obvious increase in sales when VR arrives.

Strike while it's hot.
If the press is lording the new FURYx2 the same time V-R is released it is bound to generate more sales

consoles are betterer, it has been stated! thus it shall be done! who needs vr and 4k when you can sit at your desk and play your console with a keyboard and mouse? who wants to play on thier pc while sat on thier sofa with a controller? only peasants do.

I am a crane driver for a living, so have no idea but you seem to know what is what, so I will trust your judgement :)

AFAIK its still 2 cards so needs crossfire support as normal cards do.
