AMD Fusion APU - Can play AvP in DX11

Well APU is just a term coined by AMD themselves for anything under the Fusion brand, it has absolutely no meaning outside of their own product lines. So it is the world's first APU by deafult, because they are the only ones who use the term.

The whole song and dance about the "APU" thing - as mentioned by OrphanBoy was that it could be used for generic x86 programming without the programmer having to distinguish between GPU/CPU functionality when it came to processing - which doesn't seem to be the case here.

Hehe the applause was a bit lacklustre! :p

I wonder what the res was? . . . that looks about 25-30FPS?

Looks more like 7-10fps to me, they are purposefully not moving the view too quickly to mask the low fps.

No...sorry I don't like this.

This is getting closer to console gaming.

So what next everything integrate in one mega package and in the future you chuck the whole thing out and replace it with a new one like a console?

Or you can add a discrete GPU and go hybrid xfire?:p

I like the idea of a console you can build yourself!! And if all you do is play games on a PC you would be better off with a console anyway (*hides)

Upgrade your CPU and GPU sepratly still, if you want. Or get an APU and just udgrade that as needed instead. More choice isnt a bad thing.

If i could upgrade my Q6600 to a BD version APU and its got better graphics built in then my 4870, is there any reason i wouldn't consider it? If it performs and price is right it would be an ideal path.

And if i win the lottory i can get a nice shiney I7 with 3 way SLI 480 action lol. Extreme high end wont vanish with APU's, just low/mid range will be better value.

Perhaps if you're a simpleton who plays relatively simple games that may be true, but consoles are a long, long, long way behind PC's technically and consoles just don't offer the same level of control due to having quite a simple controller rather than a keyboard and mouse. Not to mention the lack of flexibility with consoles.

I quite like this idea, from the point of view of being able to make very compact integrated systems that actually have good graphics and processing capability. I must admit though having read several people saying oh this is APU thing is "only an engineering" distinction, between both cpu and gpu being on one die or being on two in the same package. Well I say to you ...that what you are talking about is 'only a programming' distinction. Personally, I find the engineering much more interesting than the programming side of things.
