Hi there
I'm upgrading my present AMD 64 4000+ and am torn between the FX-57 (2.8ghz) and FX-60 (2.6ghz)
I appreciate the FX-60 is a dual-core processor, but the primary use of my PC is for gaming.
From my understanding single-core CPU's are better for gaming, but at the same time I am trying to future proof my system.
Which ever CPU I end up with will be teamed with an ASUS A8N SLI-Premium
motherboard, 7900GTX card and 2 gb RAM.
In your opinion, would the FX-60 be a better choice for the future even though there are few games that need dual-core processing ??
What about older games from the last few years ?? Will they run ok with a dual-core CPU ?
Appreciate all your opinions, being new to the world of dual-core processing.

cheers

Id save the money tbh and up-grade mobo and cpu to a different socket in the future, u wont notice much difference in gaming going from the 4000 to a fx

Tbh, just get conroe. A E6600 can beat a FX-62. With that saved money (unless you really are getting one for cheap) you can easily afford DDR2 ram and a mobo.

I'd go with the FX-60. You can always overclock it to 2.8ghz and that dual core advantage will be useful more and more in the next few years.

Having said that if you are going to spend proper money on CPU then you might as well get conroe instead. For £500 or so you can get a new motherboard, some DDR2 and a medium-low end conroe which is still quicker than either of the FX chips.

For the price of just an FX-62 you can get a complete E6600 Conroe setup in around a months time... there really is no competing with that.

Agreed, FX-60 simply isn't value for money or the best performer anymore.
