Hello first time poster here but i'll dive right in (sorry if its in the wrong place)

I've just purchased the AMD X6 Liberator build from OcUK set it up fine installed my GTX 760 but when i was downloading a game from steam my CPU temps shot up 67c and in CSGO it was at 79c its using the fan that came with the setup are these temps fine or is something wrong should i get a new heatsink fan that fits a AM3+

Thanks for the help guys

Yeah which case do you have? Maybe one of the refurb H series coolers?
Anyway it shouldn't be that hot on a stock cooler maybe the thermal paste is just setting.

What are you using to monitor temps? 67C just downloading something is most definitely cause for concern and 79C is panic stations, I would switch it off and do an inspection of the heatsink if it's not just an erroneous reading.

The case i got was BitFenix Shinobi USB3.0 Gaming Case - White/Black

Im using Speccy and HWmonitor

I'll turn it off and double check the heatsink is on right

Ive shut it down and had a look at the heatsink and its on right screwed down etc, i just cant think why its like this fan RPM not fast enough? the system was build by OCUK and tested for 7 days (i assume) so i dont think it can be anything build wise?

the case in a BitFenix Shinobi USB3.0 Gaming Case - White/Black
as im typing this message the temp is going between 44-61c

Could be the box took a knock in transit which has dislodged the thermal paste contact, if you can lay your hands on some more try re-applying it.

Dumb question but is the CPU fan spinning?

I think i might of fixed it, I took it off the CPU and the thermal paste was fine but the wire connecting the fan to the motherboard was looped around the clasp(were you lock it down) and I un did that and replugged it back in and as a test ive started to download XCOM and the temps are around 40 now, so i dont know if the wire being around the clasp was a problem or not, but i'll leave it for awhile now and see what happens also it seems a lot lot quieter now, thanks for the help guys

Update: Just launched CSGO and played for 10 mins and it was at 77c constant i might just need a new fan for it, but that might have to wait till xmas
Update2: I dont think it changed anything, when watching a stream at full screen it goes up to 65c

Those temps are still very high even on stock cooling. What is your cpu clockspeed? Can you install HWMonitor or coretemp and tell us what the package temp is? package temp relates to the cores and I think 62C is supposed to the maximum "safe" temp. You can go higher but you shouldn't.

If the cpu is clocked to stock, I would try reseating the cooler again. Get some half decent paste and give both the cpu and cooler a good clean (some people recommend nail polish remover - but it's usually fine just to polish it with some cloth/tissue).

On the missus' rig, I think temps never went much over 40C with a nearly identical chip on the stock cooler (with decent paste).

The clock speed is 3.5GHz im going to take off the cooler and wipe the paste off and re put some on, i dont have access to some things since im at my uni flat, i just find it weird that after OCUK tested it for 5-7 days its fine but when i get it goes like this, it could have been damaged in transit, but i cant return it since i had to bin all the boxes since my flat room is tiny and the box it came in made it so i couldnt move lol, im just hoping its something i can do easily

EDIT1: the package temp on HWmonitor is 47c (113F) It keeps going up and down depending on what im going, watching a stream fullscreen, it goes to like 62c

Yea it definitely looks too high. It should barely be under any strain watching streams and stuff like that.

It should be easy to fix, as said above the paste prob just got messed up in transit. In terms of packaging your statutory rights are on your side if problems occur and you threw out the box, but see what happens with fresh paste.

Don't do anything stressful with it until its fixed

I cant find were it says socket temp but heres an image

keeps changing a lot of the time so its hard to focus on a definite temp

You need to find out which temp is the socket temp, it will be one of the tempin readings... it might be tempin2 I think... that tempin1 which is hitting 73C could be the chipset. The package temp at the bottom is the cores I think but socket temp is supposed to be more reliable and the one AMD go by.

Ideally it would be nice if some of the AMD owners who have this board could let you know which sensor is which, they're quick to recommend AMD systems but never seem to be around to help with problems. ;)

The tmpin# number varies board maker to board maker. It will be the one which reacts most quickly to load. I'm not suggesting you run prime on all cores on this at the moment, but a single thread prime would show the correct sensor.

It does sound too high, idle and browsing, streaming tasks should be in the mid 30's to 40C max. Prime at stock should not exceed 62C.

I would suggest tmpin2 for the CPU from the attached screenshot (which loks about right) and agree with mmj_uk with the chipset temp which is high. Mine stays about 50C on the crosshair board with air cooling.

I took off all the old thermal paste with a tissue (cpu and heatsink) put some arctic 5 on the cpu and spread it around using a PVA glue spreader then went when i turned it on i went in to easy tune and set the fan to run at 90% when at 20c or above, then i launched CSGO played for awhile and it didnt go above 42c so once again i think it might be fixed i'll try launching BF3 and see how it copes, i'll update this post with what i find out

thanks for the help agian guys

Its probably the socket. Socket usually runs around 10c more than package under load. Both are important but package is the one to watch IMO but it doesn't really matter here, they are too hot
