AMD FX-9590 Review (Hardware Canucks)

AMD are confusing me at the moment.

It appears that they have quite a few mobile CPU/GPU/APU's (whatever they're meant to be called) at the moment and the performance is ok. (Infact performance might be surprising if those chips didn't have work to low power and thermal envelopes)
It's one of these CPU/GPU/APU chips (Jaguar) that's powering the next generation of consoles, so I'm wondering why AMD isn't focusing on that architecture and it improving it to make it their desktop chip's rather than the piledriver based CPU's they are putting out.

Maybe, I'm missing something.

Who said they aren't? ;)

You are missing something, :) This is not a new CPU, its the old one, an FX-8350 pushed as high as it will go, think of it as an EVGA GTX 680 Supper clocked.
Its not mean to replace the current line of CPU's its just a silly clocked up version of current CPU's.

Work on the new CPU's continues.

Capped at 60 and you'll know? I'm stunned at the i3 2120, for £99.

Yeah, in single threaded games and apps the i3 is just as good as an £850 i7 3970X.
If all you do is play older game like Dues EX and Skyrim then you can save yourself a lot of money.

This does also show how well the £150 FX-8350 competes with the £270 i7's in multi threaded apps / games.

I know it doesn't, but you still said "i3 2120 doesn't cost 100 quid" hence I fetched the link. It does here.

I wouldn't even buy a SB or IB Core i3 though especially when the FX6300 went down to slightly under £80 for a week recently. Thank goodness I ditched my one, when I did.

Edit!!

I suppose they are useful for some games though, just not Crysis3!! :(

So they haven't even caught up with the i3s yet let alone 5s and 7s?

It doesn't on low details but it's not far behind with the top Intel's. It seems this AMD where you gain one you lose on another. But saying that, the graphics card is aiding the performance.

Look at the i5 2400. It's beating the AMD by 15fps in Skyrim on low details. Even still, how would you know the difference when most people have vsync on. I personally don't care for anything above solid 60. Fair play to them that buy it.

I can't get over the power load though.
