AMD GAME!

well I guess inferior is a bit strong but at the moment intel/nv seem to have AMD/ATI beaten at most pricepoints so jumping up saying "but I'm GAME ready! hah!" is about as much use as the whole "the way its meant to be played" etc nonsense.
 
But how would someone who has no clue about PC's know they have to match Intel with nVidia products to get the best performance? And even if they did, how would they know which Intel products to match with which nVidia ones? Like someone said, both ATI & nVidia put "awesomeness gaming" on even their bottom end products, so someone armed with the half knowledge that they need an intel/nVidia combo could still be duped into buying something that is not going to perform as they had hoped.

This is the whole point.
 
This is very good for the PC gaming industry. If this sceme by AMD takes off, then it could mean that game developers will feel more comfortable developing a a demanding game for the PC, because they know that the majority of mainstream users will have a PC that can run todays games.

Whilst I agree that having AMD processors in the criteria when they are inferior is just a way to shift units, the graphics cards are a hell of a lot more competitive.

Plus, when it comes to gaming, it's the graphics card that makes all the difference anyway. Going to a Phenom from a C2Q with a 3870XT wouldn't make that much difference, but going from say, the 3870XT to a 3400 would.
 
the problem is its one sided so if it does take off intel and nv will make their own and we'll be back at square one. What happened to the boxes on games saying what's recommended etc?

on most game minimum and recommended requrements on the back of the box say amd Athlon xxxx+ or a intel at x.xxghz...

also remember the requrements doesn't say what res and level of detail to play at..

I think Supreme Commander would argue differently :p

I think this is a pretty good idea but they will have to audit OEM's very carefully. As mentioned in the article, systems will need to be updated regularly (every 6 months wasn it?) to make sure that the AMD GAME! logo does not become a tainted guiding system for...well...n00bs. As long as people know where they stand with this and AMD/OEM's are honest and actually carry this out properly, then I think we will see a much happier Joe "0mg1337Zn1p3r" Bloggs.

would only work if say it was a neutral slogan with no affiliation from the pc parts companys

were microsoft not meant doing something like this ?
 
Anything that can stop more people getting ripped off is a good idea in my opinion. Think the best rip of i heard from probably the best known pc shop in britain was my mate bought an ati graphics card for over 300 pound so i thought he had a 9800 pro same as me at the time but when i got down to his house it was a 9200 series. If this can stop just a percentage of people from getting one of those great deals then bring it on.

u need enlighten people with knowledge not with stickers if they go in some retailers and buy pc' for 5000 $ with 8500gt in sli with amd gaming sticker on it.

i will just go to bed and i dont think its good idea its good for amd as they might get 1 % of more costumers but in the end of the day those customers who will buy that are lacking of knowledge of pc hardware and will be fooled to buy product witch is how would u say it less power (fps) per £. and just get money ripped of them

Yes in theory, but reality check - "industry standard" indentifiers never work, because no large commercial company will fund a venture which might result in a lot of cash going into their competitor's pockets.

The only way these things work is through massive funding for advertising. Who is going to fund an "industry standard"?
 
wow im shocked that people are complaining this is confusing, GAME...:confused: what do i do? are y'all serious? its a good idea for the mainstream gamer, i mean whatever a phenom might not be as fast as a Q6600 overclocked to 3.6Ghz, but 90% of people could care less, they just want a pre-build system that'll do what its supposed to do, with this AMD GAME business they can at least be assured that there system can play games at a certain level, unlike my mate who bought a PC from a computer shop for £600 or something (about a year ago) that has a high-end X1600 graphics card and AMD athlon 4000+ (single core), hope things like this stop fools from wasting there money in such a way :)
