AMD likely to win Nintendo NX and continue console dominance

Since when is the wii u competing with this gen consoles?, it is way under powered never mind hardly any 3rd party support, a lot of none gamers brought into the hype of the wii and after a while a lot of those people got bored of it.

With the shrink and HBM2 next year they could have a console out the at least matches ps4 and with their games it would sell.

You just made your own point moot Bud. It isnt trying to compete with THIS gen of consoles but the last. It was released in the 360/ps3 gen and was behind them even then.

Not sure about the most fun as that is a subjective thing, but there is no doubt that an awful lot of people like Nintendo games.

This was just one of the many links that come up when searching for the best selling games of all time.

There is an awful lot of Nintendo stuff on that list.

As I said earlier,Ive owned every Nintendo console since the NES but cant help but be critical of them. They march to the beat of their own drum even when its blatantly obvious its the wrong beat to march to. Nintendo are ,and have always been,a toy company and although I like them they make games for kids and lovers of nostalgia. They are at their best when they innovate and not try to compete with the other two consoles

there's meant to be refresh's coming soon?
of the other consoles i mean

i dont think nintendo's need to be high powered thats not the sort of games they make but xbox and ps4 could use some extra!

consoles always use to make their money back with games right? and i guess now the monthly fee too lol

So being forthright, is this also likely that Sony and Microsoft will be relying and keeping costs low again with inadequate APUs next time around?

I hope not.

Those inadequate APUs are doing an adequate job.

The xbox/ps4 refreshes are to lower power consumption/heat, not increase performance

It'll allow them to do "slim" versions and lower costs

i dont rly understand the making it slimmer part
especially with the new streaming stuff, which does look pretty cool with tablets
...but its not hard to move a console anyway *shrug*

Those inadequate APU's are doing a VERY good job tbh. The PS4 has a lovely looking title soon

EFA.

It has some neat tricks with audio streaming due to the onboard module admittedly , but it's still a cheap APU with low peak theoretical numbers. All you're seeing from Naughty Dog is a hell of a lot of effort. Effort that you as a PC gamer aren't worth impressing with. It's all well matured technology and it doesn't benefit consumers in any way other than it was probably cheap to produce. 900p and 30 frames per second for a very large portion of games is not what I was expecting from the next generation of boxes. I don't know about you...

Its not about portability, its about heat/noise/power. Why wouldnt you want a smaller, quieter and more energy efficient console?

I own a PS4 as well bud so I can appreciate how much they've got out of it. Just because they tried really hard to make it look nice dosnt take anything away from how nice it looks. Just shows that its possible

That's pretty much the point, though. Whilst we have infinitely more capable hardware on this platform - all we're met with is abstract middleware layers from NVIDIA to improve quality by a fraction to none, because nobody else cares. At least AMD let out a disgruntled fart with Mantle in order for Microsoft to railroad D3D development, but that's all we're left with still after a year. DirectX 12 is the swan song for PC gaming really, if it doesn't really grab the graphics market in the next 3 to 5 years then it's time to throw the towel in for the enthusiast GPU. NVIDIA knows this already - why do you think they're so obsessed with Tegra. You adapt, or you die a death.

I'm feeling particularly cynical tonight, sorry :D. I'm not wrong, though

Agreed, the PS4 keeps surprising me tbh. Arkham Knight, Witcher 3 look awesome and play great on PS4.

The desktop APU's are poor in comparison and more suitable for general PC use/ web gaming and 720P actual PC gaming. But the custom console APU's are decent.

Future console APU could utilise HBM and be really quiet powerful with die shrinks allowing much more shaders etc.
