Hi Guys,
ok... I'm having some issues with a Llano APU. I built a media center for my living room using the following components.
Llano A8 3870.
Asus F1A55-M LX motherboard.
60GB OCZ Vertex 2 60GB.
Samsung Deskstar 1TB.
500W Coolermaster PSU.
Thermaltake Armor A30 (ok its not a media center pc chassis but you can fit more in it and it costs half the price of most media center cases and is portable too meaning you can take it too lan gaming sessions if needs be
)
8GB 1600Mhz Kingston HyperX.
ATI 5870.
Onboard sound.
And the issue is with the sound and graphics set up. See i upgraded the graphics card because it is out of my I7 machine. I didn't want to sell it or chuck it because i thought i could use it after replacing it with an XFX 6950.
There is no audio connectors on the back of the motherboard appart from the sound card ports, so i figured that i could use the HDMI from the 5870 for sound and video, I even went as far as to buy a HDMI cable that was 1.4a compatible and i know that the cables that i have are the right ones for the job.
After removing the CCC software and display driver, i went into the bios and disabled the graphics portion of the CPU. Changing the primary output from IGFX to PCIE and disabling the multiscreen option. I thought that this would effectively disable the APU's output option.
Now let the fun begin....
1st, it seems that when i use AMD's autodetect software to download the best available driver for the 5870, it also instal's drivers for the 6550D built into the Llano. The boot sequence runs fine, loading in safe mode works fine too but as soon as windows 7 starts up, the screen changes graphics cards from HDMI on the 5870 to the APU. No matter what i do, I don't seem to be able to stop the APU from activating and forcing me to enable multiple displays in the bios again which is annoying for 2 reasons, 1 i need an extra VGA cable constantly connected to the motherboard otherwise both displays stop working (even after selecting a primary display in ccc) and 2, i can't find out how to get HDMI sound working through the graphics card which is what i wanted to have it for in the 1st place.
Even if i uninstal the software for the 6550D and the 5870, when i select AMD's autodetect software to find the latest drivers for the 5870, it detects the 6550D in preference to the 5870 and like i said above, if i remove and disable the 6550D altogether the screen stops displaying an image and both cards stop working where as if i set the primary display for the 5870 i cant get HDMI sound via the cable. All that happens is that the system tells me that "failed to play test sound" or displays "Not plugged in" next to the audio source which i think is because the software suite instals the audio driver for the 6550D on the APU rather than the HDMI connector on my graphics card. All i know is that i tried using a DVI-D adaptor on the HDMI cable once and it said it was plugged in but produced no sound.
Sorry to bring this to the table guys but i need some help or advice, like if i can stop the gpu drivers for the llano from loading at start up or something, or if their is a way that i can entireley disable the GPU portion of the 3870. Its been 3 weeks now doing every thing i can think of and I always end up back at square 1.
Thanks,
Myth.
