AMD Mantle: A Graphics API Tested In Depth (TH)

a 4770k and a 290x/780ti and 1080p resolution...lol, once these new api's (including dx12) show meaningful gains at real high end settings (4k, multi monitor) then i'll be convinced, the results i've seen so far have been far from it though, seems mostly aimed at the low/mid range

Let's see how your Titan SLI and Titan Black Tri SLI results compare to a couple of cheap 290P blowers boys. :D :p

2700k@5Ghz
290P Crossfire 1000/1250
14.7
Mantle
1080P Ultra 75 FOV
Nansha Strike
Average FPS:185

Aside from one dirty spike at the start, i do belive in terms of frame variance/consistency this is as close to perfect as you can get without using vsync or an fps limit. #TheMantleEffect

Round cut short by dinner. More to follow tomorrow.

Reads as Mantle being great for those with low end CPU + with high end AMD GPU combo, but for those with i7's not much advantage.

Mantle does seem like a very clever way to bridge the underperforming AMD CPU's with software API until AMD can release some competitive hardware later on.

Either way, it's impressive and spurred MS to get a move one with DX12, and probably shaped what DX12 would be. Not sure how relevant Mantle will be when DX12 arrives, but if it bridges that gap between CPU hardware for AMD it will have probably done it's job by the time DX12 arrives anyway.

why they not show i5s ?

in bf4 for eg unless two cards eg same even slightly faster :p

same in bf3 . there are already benchmarks showing this.

Here is a couple with my 4930k on 4 cores but the clockspeed @3.9ghz the same as a 4770k using it's turbo.

Yup, that's about right, with Mantle neither the FX-8350 nor the i7 Bottleneck a 290X in thief, the performance depends entirely on the GPU so the end result should be about the same for both CPU's.

Christ only knows how Toms came up with the results they did.

AMD on Mantle and beating Nvidia: 'You ain't seen nothing yet'

Now AMD's EMEA general manager Darren Grasby (pictured) has said gamers can expect more great things from Mantle.

"Quite frankly you've not seen anything yet," he told PCR. "If you think about Mantle and the performance boost that it gave us around Battlefield 4 for example, as we move forward with the Graphics Core Next technology that we’re driving, Mantle will be centre to our strategy as we move through the rest of the year and beyond. It’s getting [increased] awareness out there now.

"Also, the very fact that some of the competition out there is talking about it means it’s starting to resonate."

He starts the sentence saying "if you think about [performance boost]" then finishes it with PR-speak. Would be nice to hear something specific. :/
