AMD next-generation flagship of the end of the single-card dual-core debut

Native dual core chips would hopefully put an end to dual card setups and games developers will have to write to suit the hardware. This would be a great move for PC gaming IMO.

What would be good, is if they can join multiple GPU dies on the PCB to act as one in parallel through an extremely high bandwidth connection. This is what I think the intention of the side port was in RV770.
Basically you could create a card with an effective huge die, but with the advantage of yields that small die's bring.

It would be debatable if the core would be a true native dual core part, but it makes perfect sense to have two cores on the same die.

ATI could essentially double the 40nm transistor capacity and reduce the PCB cost having a card setup like that. Not to mention the increased electronics performance.

Edit: sorry Ejizz I got a call before I finished the post. My thoughts exactly

Is this what AMD meant by having a fusion of the best design aspects of a CPU and GPU ?

Is Fusion also a GPU based on a multi core CPU design, not just a CPU with GPU capability.

I just say what I see and that's a fair few peps with xfire problems many of who post on these forums, I have nothing against ATI, my previous experience with them was exceptional apart from the odd niggle. I genuinely want them to improve their drivers, as for " pop in any AMD thread " hardly.

Sorry, totally off topic:
You have mentioned x-fire drivers about a million times over the last few weeks though. I'm not leaping to any ones defence but you do seem very anti-ati these days and you seemed very anti-nvidia when you had an ati card. Not having a go, just saying what I see, as a wise man once said. :D

On topic, I really hope ati sort out there x-fire drivers!!! :D joke, joke!!
It is unusual for Nvidia not to release a dual-gpu card this round, it would have been good to have some competition for the 5970.

He'll probably swing around again when the 6 series is out.

I wonder if we will see a utilised side port this time that was seen but not used in the 4870x2?

Yeah, I always thought they would enable it on some future driver release but it never happened. Didn't some manage to hack in to working?? not sure what the results were.

Results were that it increased performance, but the performance increase wasn't worth the increase in power consumption.

^^^
Perhaps that's what all this talk of improved efficiency regarding the architecture is about, as cypress is pretty unbeatable in terms of performance Vs power already.
