AMD Opteron 175 Denmark 2.2GHz or an AMD 64 X2 4600 2.4GHz?

Hi,

I don't know about the 175 but I have a 165 that does 2.75Ghz and a 170 that will do 2.95Ghz though I reckon it will do more with a better board as at this speed my voltage regs cause issues. Vcore is a little unstable.

From what I've read the X2's don't clock quite as well as the opterons.

Haven't tried a X2 personally .....

my opteron 146 is at 2.8ghz. Would I be better off getting a 175 and trying to clock it to around 2.6 or stick with single core?

(sorry for the sort of hi-jack)

the 175 is an awesome cpu, i got mine just other day as an upgrade from a 3700. and when im doing all my work i can run more and more programs at once, its currently just stock and is still very good. game wise its just the same as the 3700 because most of my games dont support dual core

I've got similar problems with my mobo but my Opty 170 will do 3.05GHz and does 2.8GHz on stock volts! Save yourself a few quid and go for a 165 or 170. I might be wrong but someone on here (Ichabod?) paid £200 or best part of for his 175.

Opteron is the way to go. If you can get it past 2.8GHz it will compete with C2D E6600 performance.

is that a stock 6600, or a clocked 6600? why would u comparted a clocked opteron to a stock 6600? the C2D's have more oc headroom than the Opterons and also do more work per Mhz too...

Of course they do - we all know they will clock better. But at close to half the price of the 6600 they're not bad value.

Not to mention the added cost involved in getting a new mobo for a conroe set up and possibly having to upgrade to ddr2 as well. For a lowly amd user the opty offers excellent potential performance for a little extra outlay.

Who you calling 'lowly'? :p

I was going to pay just under £200 for a 185 but the day i went to order one the price jumped to over £280 everywhere so i jumped ship to Intel. Got a 4300, P5N-E Sli 650i and 2GB Geil Ultra PC2-6400 CL4 all for just under £295. :D

The 185 was from the states so i went for a 170 for £130. The stepping on the chip is CCBBE 0615DPMW. Suppose to be able to get these upto 3ghz+!! Heres hoping.........
