AMD Opteron price reductions effective today!

Temps on my old 4800+ would sky rocket to 65c+ with AMD's stock 4 heatpipe aircooler even when just o/c to 2.7Ghz. So in went one of Scythes high end coolers, o/c to 3Ghz and temps never went above 46c in warm room. So yeah a high end air cooler will make a huge diff. :)

I never got the heatpipe cooler, as my Opty was OEM but the AF64 keeps it cool enough for my liking.

ok, took cooler off and cleaned with Akasa TIMClean and lint free cloth. Reset using Arctic Silver 5 but used about a grain of rice size, twisted cooler slightly to 'spread' and now getting the following readings on Speedfan when running Acronis Trueimage Backup

CPU 37-41C
SYS 42C
PWM 44C
Core 1 43C
Core 2 36C

System fan at 2940rpm and OTES 1 & 2 now running at 4320 rpm. What is going on, removed previous thermal paste, which was probably too much but reading various threads etc it states about a grain of rice size but these temps are no better, would it now be worth stripping down the PC removing the M/B and fitting the Zalman fan, thinking of getting the CNPS9500 but already have the CNPS7000, anyone any idea's, haven't even started o/c yet

re-set the cooler and changed the AC5 again. got the following readings ARE THESE BETTER  ???

CPU 27 - 30C
SYS 36C - Stays at this all the time
PWM 42C - varies between 41C & 43C
Core 25C - although varies between 24C and 37C mostly around 25C
The above is from Speedfan
Core 1 40C
Core 2 26C
From PC Wizard 2007

PC is idle with speedfan, PC wizard, Firefox and some background stuff running, Task Manager reports 0%- 2% activity. Using Vista Ultimate Opteron 170 running stock with stock cooler, M/B Abit AN8-Sli Fatal1ty

Sold x2 4800 939 (for £75 more than i paid for it new!), Asus mobo, 2Gb G.Skill memory and spent zero £'s extra on upgrade to E6600, Asus P5K, 2Gb Geil Ultra, amazing what some people will pay for older equip sometimes. So went ahead & sold my two bro's equip to upgrade there rigs with little extra funds added, A2Z comment on the first page was correct tbh.
