AMD Opteron vs AMD Athlon

What difference if any would you expect to see between an Opteron 146 single core (Socket 939) versus an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 3800+ (Socket 939)

i upgraded from a 146 opty at 3ghz to a opty 170 at 2.9 and tbh there is not much of a difference.

but this is on xp pro and not running any dual core optimized software

I have 2 DFI NF4s, one with a 146 @ 2.8Ghz and the other a 3800 x2 @2.5Ghz. Benchmarks show quicker Super-PI, 3d2k01 with the 146 - as you would expect; very similar scores in 3D2k03 and 05; higher scores in Aqua3 and 3D2k06 and X3 benchmark. Gfxs used in both systems : ATI X800XL and 7600GT. Overall as previous poster said "not much". But in normal usage the x2 does seem a little slicker and is easier to use when using 2 apps. at the same time even when not dual core optimised.

Upgrading to dual core wouldn't hurt if you wanted to hang on to your other components for a while longer plus the price cuts will make the prospect even more appealing.
