amd or intel for gaming cpu if not overclocking?

I was going to ask about that ASRock board as it was on offer I think, but they are not renown for quality IIRC. Probably still a great board, wonder if any members here have one?

Bad board for the 8320 or higher. I know someone who had one, and as expected couldn't overclock well (hit a wall at 4.3GHz).

Shame really then, it looks good and is priced well. I didn't hear much from that brand so not a shock really.

yes but for what he is wanting, ie for a friends son, and he isnt going to clock it. . .

If you're not overclocking at all on a 6300/8320 you can just go with the basic Gigabyte one at £60.

Some boards are so poor that they won't even run the 8320 at stock boost clocks though.

The ASrock was never designed for Piledriver 8 core CPUs. This board, although no good for overclocking really, is more recent and should be fine at stock.
