AMD or Intel New build (Beginner)

So guys,

Im building my first PC in like 15 years or so and boy! So much has changed. Ive been told that AMD is basically now as good and possibly taking the lead. I will mostly be gaming on it but maybe some audio editing (Barely).

Can anyone lend me some advice?

I have made this build so far but i'm not sure how good it is. I'm not looking to spend much more than £800 because i need to buy a monitor too.

You can save £100 by buying a second-hand Windows license elsewhere. And you can use the money you save to buy a far better GPU than the GTX 1050. The GTX 1050 is really rock bottom for gaming. Look instead at the GTX 1660, RTX 2060, or RX 590.

You could also downgrade to a B450 motherboard. Do you really need more than 500 GB of storage?

But most of all, AMD have just announced their new CPUs, so you should wait for reviews if you can.

@Plec and @orbitalwalsh will be along shortly to tie things down even further.
 
Welcome aboard.

Would recommend waiting three weeks to get Zen2 Ryzens into shops to get more competition into CPUs.
Also Navi graphics cards could bring some competition into GPUs.

Asus motherboard of that prebuilt has pretty garbage VRM only good for 65W CPUs.
Cheaper X470 Aorus Ultra Gaming would have more decent VRM.
But suspect MSI B450 Carbon would be more than enough for your needs while even even better VRM.

Also with its lowish boost clocks 2600 isn't really that hot for gaming, especially when it's IPC (instructions per clock) isn't the best.
Zen2 Ryzens will improve that.

And like just said GTX 1050 is really low end for gaming.

Only problem is if i buy one second hand then i need to set it all up after it gets here?

I wanted the SSD for booting and some games and the 1TB for the extra stuff like photos and the likes. I have a wife with a photo problem.... lol

Is this to bring down prices? (Waiting for the Zen2? and the NAvi?)

Is the MSI B450 Tomahawk the same thing? As that is the only option showing on OCUK for this build.

Im going to sound really new now... but Zen2? Is that just a new iteration of the Ryzen CPU?

You're going to be doing a lot of that anyway. These days all you need to do is put Windows on a USB stick, boot your new PC off that stick, and let it go. Then install the various motherboard drivers and the graphics drivers.

Is that worth £100 to you?

Good point and i have people to help if i get stuck.
 
Well there is put windows on a stick and let it go.
But... there is a bit more to a decent windows install.

Install windows
Make a couple of admin accounts, i have lost count of the number of folk bringing pc's to me to look at with a forgotten password and no secondary account.. dont do it!
Setup networking
Then configure the drivers properly, ie chipset, video, sound ect.... not microsofts built in guff
Then make sure its got decent virus / malware protection
Make sure windows update is running properly.
Set restore points and ...
... your away.

Yea, you should see sales on Zen 1 processors when Zen 2 is on sale.
Navi GPUs should be an improvement over the current Vega (which is regarded and hot and power hungry). So you might want to consider Navi over Vega.
Zen 2 is AMD's next generation of CPUs.
 
So i've changed my thoughts a bit and am thinking about instead of using a prebuilt system, try to put together my own and have OCUK build it for me.

What do you think? Will it all work together? Can i do better anywhere?
