AMD or Intel???

£188 inc vat for the 940 BE on OcUK, most people are hitting 3.8-4.5GHz on these chips, most on air too.

I can't understand why people are only recommending Intel here, fanboys?

Well for 1 most of these posts were yesterday when there was a £60 premium on the 240 just because its brand new. (Which was obviously gonna drop soon)
I'm still not sure what I'm gonna do, might just wait 6 months as I can play all the games fine apart from GTA IV and Ive finished that :(

Personally id go with AMD, through personal experience ive found Intel based systems to be excellent at numbercruching and AMD based systems to be excellent at games no idea why.
Oh and Phenom II is the sex :p got mine at 4ghz on air :D

Must admit the Phenom II is now coming into its own and looking sweeter with that price drop - still a bit past my price range, but that might be my next system upgrade in 12-18 months, and some nice DDR3 to go along with it! :D

If you don't need more than two cores, then I would highly recommend getting a C2D, even if it's a E5200 or E7300 paired with some nice RAM and overclock it :) You should be able to get 3.0Ghz+ easy, and you save like £50-100 from not going quad.

This is the kind of setup I was looking at

Corsair 4GB DDR2 XMS2 PC2-6400C5 TwinX (2x2GB)
Intel CPU I think from what you guys have said
MB I am not sure on
9800 GTX but I have heard some ppl say that the ATI are pretty good. Always been a Nvidia man myself

Some bits I already have like monitor, HDD

Similar to my setup:
Corsair 4GB XMS2 DDR2 PC6400
Intel C2D E8400 (although I considered a E5200 or E7300)
Asus P5Q Pro
Radeon 4850

Because they have the better performance?

I used to have a XP-M and AMD64 system, atm if I were to build it would be intel just because they are the quickest. When AMD come the quickest, I'd buy that etc.

Its not all fanboyism!

Ignoring the i7 because that's in a completely different price bracket.

Stock for stock Intel just scrape it overall but AMD takes it in a number of areas, it's very close right now. Start overclocking and adjusting the NB and AMD easily takes it. Even if you don't clock past the stock 3GHz the NB opening gives a considerable boost in performance and is perfectly stable.
