Always on the M1.....
Without wishing to open up a whole AMD vs Intel thread, I'm looking for people's thought as to what is the current state of play with laptop processors.

I've always had Intel and rightly or wrongly always felt that at least in the laptop department, AMD were not as good as Intel. Is this still the case?

Trying to factor this into buying a laptop for my mother - I suspect it probably wouldn't make much difference for her but I always like to go in with my eyes open! I'm thinking processors in the £500 laptop department, not the real high or low end or netbook range.

In the £500 laptop section it varies from processor to processor, as quite a few different low end models are used. Find a few models you're interested in and compare from there.

Intel is often faster than the AMD mobile chips, but not always the case, depending on the models offered.

Intel are generally better - you get the odd good AMD laptop setup but generally they run hotter/use more power or are lacking in performance. Without knowing the ins and outs of every specific build you'd likely get better results going with intel.
