hello everyone...

i have a dilema. i cannot chose between AMD or intel for my first ever build. i kow AMD are a lot cheaper than intel, but intel have really high performance stuff. it will be mainly for editing and maybe abit of gaming, but i dont know a huge amount on the matter, and i am sure there are some know-it-alls out there.

please help

tom

You can use this to pick and compare different CPU's - http://www.anandtech.com/bench/CPU/2

But generally, Intel beat AMD at all things.

Except price*, you aren't going to find a 6 sata 3 pro mobo from intel at amds prices for a while. I think, pound for pound, the 2500k is better value than the equivalent amd (unless you're encoding video, amd hex core are ecxeptional for this). The real question is whether you'll use all that cpu. A 955 or 1055t is more than enough cpu for any game or program most people will throw at them. The 1055t at £125 is, frankly, a steal for video editing.

1. set budget
2. decide main use
3. 1 dictates 2, but for editing amds hex core are the way to go.

*and amd just outpace the i7 on video encoding
