I'm looking at getting a new laptop and I would like one with a dedicated GFX card so I can play MW2 on it. The laptop would also be used for office work, browsing and running some Firefox scripts.

I read somewhere that with the current line up of CPUs that Intel are the way forward for Laptops however I am struggling to find an i3 based Laptop with a dedicated GFX card within my budget whereas there are a few AMD based ones around.

Would I notice any drastic improvement with an i3 based laptop over an AMD or older generation C2D based laptop? I suppose I could sell my 3 year old laptop that's barely used to bridge the gap but it's something I'd rather avoid.

Hi mate, lots of threads on this recently, search my posts in this forum for an idea but firstly, what is your budget.

Consider a dell vostro 3550 which has an i3 + ati 6630 graphics that will run what you want and this comes in at £479 inc VAT and delivery also including a 1 year next day on site warranty. The i5 version is only £50 more.

You can get some lower end toshiba and acer with 5470, 4570, 6470 graphics in but these are pretty low end cards now although will run games from 2 years ago on medium detail.

Otherwise, an Acer 5553g can be had for just over £500 with two years warranty and that is pretty well specced AMD (i5 equivalent) with Ati 5650 graphics in.

You can still get an MSI FX600 bluray for under £400 and that has an i3 and GT325m in which isn't a bad card. Check on here for the graphics http://www.notebookcheck.net/NVIDIA-GeForce-GTX-460M.33612.0.html

Well I've just bought a Dell XPS 15 with the 2GB NVIDIA® GeForce® GT 540M Graphics Card.

I didn't change the spec of the CPU, so it's the 2nd generation Intel® Core™ i5-2540M processor 2.60 GHz with Turbo Boost 2.0 up to 3.30 GHz.

Think I should get the CPU changed to an i7?

I know it's way out of my original budget but Dell have some nice deals atm.
