Doing a cheap rig for a lady down the road got a choice of AMD 64 5400+ x2 or Intel Celeron E1200 or Dual core E2220
which of these would be ok just for surfing and buying/selling on the net, in other words which is the best one that is also the least power hungry if you get what i'm on about (not sure I do now ) :D;)

Right I know where your coming from but I've explained well enuf :(
I have all 3 of these cpu's what I want to know is which one will be best as a bare minimum to do what she wants and keep her costs down, rig will have 2 gb of ram in it.

Results

I would say all of the chips would be ok for her usage - it depends which ones you want to keep :)

The AMD and the Core 2 Duo are about even with the slowest being the Celeron

I don't get the confusion cono, the guys have said you should go for the AMD, where is the issue? If it's cost wise then go for the cheapest as clearly the benchmarks don't seem to have meaning to you?

Oh right, then the Celeron E1200 will be fine for what she will use it for, unless of course this is her:

Seriously though, my Grandad doesn't do more than that and he uses a single core P4 build with 256MB RAM.

What motherboards do you intend to use??

The AMD integrated graphics for socket AM2 or AM2+ tend to be better overall than the equivalent Intel ones. Only the Nvidia 9200 series IGPs were much better.

Watts

In terms of power usage they are all similar - I would go with the e2220

e1200 celeron 65 watts
e2220 65nm duel core - 65 watts
AMD20 64 5400+ 65 watts

The AMD is probably the better option of the three. Depends on the rest of the system though - is this an upgrade or new build?

Yeah thats what what I was trying to get at didn't want to give anything she wasn't going to use to it full potential.
It what I was thinking but wanted a second opinion thats all.

Thanks for all the input.

Again what motherboard are you using?? What operating system are you using??

You are obsessed about the processor which is the least important thing TBH.

Most sites are flash heavy and the standard Intel Core2 IGPs out side of the ones found in the G45 motherboards cannot decode flash.

Your E1200 with a GMA900 or GMA950 IGP will be terrible.

Ok,
She has choice of Abit kn9 ultra for either athlon 64 3500+ or 5400+
Asus P5N-T Deluxe or Asrock 4core twins P35 or Gigabyte GA-G41MT-D3V

The only motherboard with an IGP is the G41.

The other motherboards lack an IGP and will need a discrete graphics card. Which cards do you have available??

What OS are you installing??

Edit!!

The Gigabyte GA-G41MT-D3V looks quite a new motherboard too and uses DDR3 too. It also seems to use the GMA X4500 too. Flash acceleration is not brilliant but is better than nothing:

Both the 8500GT and 9600GT seem to support flash acceleration:

The HD3450 does not but for some reason the HD3200 IGP does support it!!
