AMD or Nvidia: Between a Rock and a Hard Place?

This is a good thread with varied, balanced viewpoints on the whole. I'm an AMD man yet my last 4 cards have been nvidia (780 to 970 doesn't count as that was an RMA :D ), plus I've been using Intel CPU's since 2006. Moving forward I'm just not putting enough time into gaming to justify further upgrades, and on the whole I'm a bit jaded with hardware (for instance I went from an i5 2500K to an i5 4690K during a troubleshooting process and saw very little real improvement). Heck, in the last couple of months all I've played is War Thunder which flies along! I'll be taking a step back and using my current setup until it's painfully slow, hopefully by which time there'll be lots of new tech to get excited about. Fortunately as I'll soon be having my first child this hiatus will be financially enforced to a degree!

As for drivers I've had as many issues with nvidia as I had with AMD (ATi at the time), and just cannot seem to shake texture shimmering in some games (across multiple driver sets and OS's) where my friends get none.

I used to notice shimmering when playing CS:S on either my GTX480 / 570, where as I didn't get any on red team cards. A minor quirk, but a little puzzling all the same.

Sorry bud but nVidia have released the last few drivers as WHQL.

That is very true! And I am realizing that I did not write my previous sentence in a correct way. I wanted to say that the last drivers that worked in my hands were the WHQL from December 2014 and I said something completely wrong instead :).

My 570/680 had the worst of it, particularly in the Battlefield games. It's a small thing but can really grate, especially when high up surveying large areas of a map.
