Ever since I sought out to make a design for my computer I always strived towards Nvidia but I don't know why. But when I look at AMD there products look better and cheaper. Can someone tell me why Nvidia prices are so high and what are the pros and cons of each manufacturer?

Thanks

The real pro of Nvidia is that SLI works better than Crossfire and the Nvidia drivers are generally better than AMD's drivers. Apart from that nothing else really.

It is very debatable and a lot due to history which is NOT relevant today.

Lots of games are made using Nvidia (probably for sponsorship reasons) so AMD have to adapt their drivers to the games and hense have a few small but fixable issues on occasion.

Thats not to say that Nvidia never have driver issues either though......for me its all about how much money you are willing to spend. The most expensive cards are almost always the latest ones out, and are supposedly the best performing (by 5-10% at stock).

Its as much about fanboy-ism as it is to do with quality and performance of product, as between the 7970 and 680 there is very very little in it but price and ''brand label''.

I do not own either 680 or 7970 so maybe it is better to ask someone who owns both (very difficult to find someone with an unbiased oppinion however).

where is the proof? I dont know personally which is best but I am guessing its very subjective and oppinion based.

High '%' = Better Scaling with the addition of the second card:

The proof? Crossfire AMD requires you to download extra packages for extra games don't have the packages then it messes up a lot. SLI is known to be a lot more stable for a lot of games compared to Crossfire. It is subjective and opinion based but as you said Nvidia works with a lot of games etc which means their drivers and such are actually built around what the game will be doing. AMD sell their better cards a bit cheaper than Nvidia for that reason making their Crossfire a cheaper alternative but with the extra packages its a bit more hassle tbh. Im not saying Nvidia performs better for the cash, they both work well. I try to be open now on the subject. But Nvidia drivers and SLI generally work better for the games etc.

And that is a lot... and Im not reading over it because it probably looks god awful but hope you get the point xD

Having used both AMD and Nvidia and primarily only gaming with Starcraft 2 I currently favour Nvidia. I think Starcraft 2 is optimised for it though.

From personal experience I have not had any bother out of Nvidia drivers, beta or whql. However, with my previous AMD cards (5770/6850) I did have issues with drivers. Personally I think Nvidia seem focused towards gamers and that AMD always seem to be playing catch up with games support. I especially like their dedicated optimisation site where you can select your card and game and it tells you what are the best settings for your resolution. AMD may ahve something similar though.

However, the current 7850, although I ahd a bad experience, is an awesome card and hard to beat.

Before I get troll bashed this is just my opinion. We all have our own and as mentioned they are often subjective.

If I was to go dual gpu then I probably would go with Nvidia, but thats just because I currently have an AMD 6950 and it isnt without issues. My guess however is that a 120hz monitor would not go amiss, and would probably add more eye ''performance'' boost than simply buying a 7970/680 with a 60hz monitor. After all, what is the point of the computer telling you the FPS is 100+ when the game isn't looking as good nor as smooth as it otherwise could be?

If you are going to optimize your hardware, its probably best to optimize your peripherals. I understand that its a little off topic as per the AMD/Nvidia discussion but its all relevant in terms of gaming experience.

I do get your point though, and I do believe that is why Nvidia cards are more expensive - the 'little' perks.

I've had a Asus 5850, the drivers are good but had a few problems with graphics lag (nothing to do with the graphics card itself) but yeah, so i upgraded as i wanted a change so i went to a GTX 580, which has been perfect, a tad on the hot side but hey atleast my games are much smoother, and a ton more fps.
