Hi guys, I just need to get this right incase I'm doing something wrong.

I have just unlocked the 3rd and 4th core on my cpu named above.

Windows boots up fine. I can open programmes such as coretemp (even though it didn't show any temps?) Also cpuz, which tells me it's a phenom ii x4 b50.

But when I try to open chrome or ie, they crash ? Does that mean the cores are defective ?

Or is there somthing else I need Todo as I am new at this.

My system is...

Gigabyte 78lmt_usb3
Corsair xms3 1333 2x2gb
Amd phenom ii 550 be 3.1
Kingston v300 60gb ssd
Evo labs 400w psu

Ssd is set to ide in bios (because I'm a noob and didn't know I had to change it before os install lol)
Would that help if I change it to raid or the other one lol

Cheers guys, I'm a bit confused :)

You may have to increase the CPU voltage slightly to get it stable. You won't be able to see the temps in any program, it's one of the downsides of unlocking cores. Not sure why it happens but it happens on mine too.

20mv (0.020v) should do it.

Ok thank you, I will give it a try as soon as I get home, I will let ou know how it goes.

Just a quick question, if I unlock the cores, do I need to let it boot, then restart, then change the voltage, or as soon as it restarts after unlocking the cores, can I just go into bios and adjust the voltage?

Cheers

How far could i go to see if i can get it stable but also so its safe?

Om only usig stock cooler at the moment.
Thanks guys

I wouldn't go much higher than 1.5V with a decent cooler. Keep an eye on your temps with the stock cooler, I'd probably stop increasing the voltage when it reaches < 55° under load.

Ok, the stock setting is 1.135v, I upped it to 1.137, and it allmost worked, so if I upped it to say 1.139 or 1.141 it will be ok?

How can I check temp under load if no programme will show temp because it will be unlocked lol

Incorrect advice on the voltage increments 0.02v. thats hardly going to change anything.
The correct increments would be 0.1v then if your stable reduce it down using 0.025v

First of all is it a c2 or c3 stepping?
Is your ram in dual channel mode?

I reacon you'll need around 1.25v -1.35v for the 4 cores to be stable if its a c2.

Yes my bad, I'm at work at the moment so I don't know if it's c2 or c3, how can I tell ? Will it say in bios, I think it's in dual channle, I put the ram in slot one and two.

Sorry if I would like a complete noob. I m just new a. this and can't afford to blow my computer up lol so want to make sure whatever I do im doing it right.

Thank you

I didn't need any voltage to stabilise my cores. I went for an undervolt :/ and that was on a C2.

I presume the OP is on stock cooler; Temps
PSU might not be great (?) By unlocking you're adding a 45W onto your load.

My old GB board allowed me to selctively lock cores. May be worth investigating if one of the unlocked cores is not quite up to scratch.

HWmonitor should read your cpu I think its called tmp1 or something; you don't get core temps but you shouldn't need to. Worth matching it up when its locked and then unlocking.

EDIT CPUZ will tell you whether its C2 or C3; not really sure if this makes a huge difference tbh.

I have just checkd and its c2. Also how can i check if my ram is in dual channel ?
Thank you
