hi, i have tried unlocking again, with upping the voltage, but same thing is happening, so im just gonna have to stick with the 2 cores :(

Thanks for all your help :)

Jonnyp

I had the same chip from overclockers. I managed to get the cores to unlock but only core 3 was stable after fiddling with the voltage so I stuck with a tri-core and it's a canny little processor.

Try three cores maybe?

Taking a stab here but maybe try increasing the cpu nb and ht link speeds and voltage for those too to see if that helps with stability. It might just be a case that the unlocked cores are not running well with lower communication speeds between the components since it is by default a dual core cpu. Try raising them by 100mhz increments and voltage by 0.1v increments until ita stable.

If this doesn't work then try running it at tri core as mentioned before.

Hey OP....i have the same cpu....mine is running on 3 cores

HOWEVER.... to get 3 cores running, i had to disable one of the original working cores....core 1 can't be disabled....i have core 2 disabled (original working core) then the remaining 3rd and 4th core would operate just fine...for some reason all the cores enabled together wouldn't work...but turning off the 2nd core...let me turn on the 3rd and 4th and its been working flawlessly ever since....so you could try that if you have the correct options in the bios....to activate and deactivate certain cores

temps/performance wise my cpu is perfectly fine, having tested certain cores on and off to make sure there all running as they should be

so i guess you could try that if your bios permits you

not as good as having the full 4 cores....but i guess 3 cores is better than 2 :D

also no voltage tweaks were needed...my cpu is C3 Stepping

I tried turning of cores. But i didnt try core 2 because i thought no pooint becos that was a workingn one lol
I wil have another bash at it tonight. Would an extra core make much diffrence from 2 cores?

Sorry bout typos...stupid phone lol

yeah, it is kinda strange...my 3rd and 4th cores only work if core 2 is turned off...guess there's a fault somewhere between them....but yeah give it a try, and performance wise, i guess if your running an application that is multi-threaded to use more than 2 cores than yeah it will benefit from the extra core...my chip is now running 3 cores @ 4ghz :D

Lol. Are you using water cooling to get it to 4ghz ?
Also. Did you just turn core 2 off and leave others on ?
No voltage increase or owt ?

Well in my bios it has 1,2,3,4,5,6 cores....5/6 you obvious cant use because they don't exist lol so i disabled them and disabled core 2...and enabled core 3,4 .....then boot your system and check its stable....overclocking wise...no water cooling, i have a "Xigmatek Thor's Hammer"

haven't attached a fan too it though, its just passively cooling

i upped by voltage to 1.45v ...the max voltage for these chips is 1.55v so not a massive increase...max temps running prime95 is 49/51c

i was running the chip at 3.7ghz on the stock cooler though before, with no voltage increase and was fully stable

just trial and error really, see what you can squeeze out of it

I will see what happens tonight lol and let you know. Iv got a feeling that mines just gna be dual. Its my luck lol

hey, i have tried disabling 2nd core, and tried it with diff voltage but still not stable, im just gna have to put up with dual for now lol, guess i will have to buy a quad at a later date :(

cheers for the help though :)

Really? awww that sucks man...i really thought it would work  well its still not a bad chip as a dual, see if you can overclock it a little with just 2 cores, squeeze abit of extra performance out of it :D

Whats the max voltage you've tried so far mate? Also a post earlier said you cant get temp readings from these, you can, but will depend what program you use! Programs like Coretemp will try to read core by core, these chips have no separate monitor for each core but a program like HWMonitor will give you the overall temp.

From what I can tell you havn't pushed past 1.2 volts yet? I've got mine running at 1.55 volts on a 30 quid zalman cooler and it doesn't pass 55c on load.

Just go straight in for 1.4 volts, its perfectly safe, just watch your temps, and if its stable keep reducing down...

I have tried it at 1.4 and was still not stable lol. Im gna get a better cooler next weeo and see ifni can clock it abit. See how that goes. Thanks though. Guess i just have a genually defective quad lol
