Looking at a Phenom II X2 that can unlock to an X4. Does the cache unlock as well so it will be 4x 512K instead of just 2X 512K ?

How dose it affect power consumption by unlocking a core?

Temps are higher and so is power consumption. Not at all a problem though, even with the stock cooler, unless you have a hefty overclock. You may need to bump the voltage up to get the unlocked cores stable and of course this also means more power consumption and heat.

When you unlock your cores, your sensors will likely not work in windows, so be careful when pushing your clocks.

They can run pretty hot on the stock cooler once unlocked so don't go expecting huge overclocks.

Also not all of them unlock.

The x4s are so cheap these days. Why not just get an X4?

I still use a 560 unlocked. Cpuz gives a tdp of 143 watts. This is at 4ghz at volts of 1.55. Like mentioned they run quite a bit hotter but mines not to bad idle around 35, below 50 load. This is with a 25 quid zalman cooler. You can potentially get a bargain with them, but I've seen the 965's floating around for 60 quid delivered, so unless its considerably less...

Because I got a bundle on the members market.

Chip is happily unlocked and overcooked. 4x cache.

I don't think you want to be cooking a CPU at all mate, let alone overcooking one! :D

LOL. Silly tablet auto correct! Good spot lol.

Got 3.6 easily at the moment and it is nice and cool, 3.8 is unstable and resets pc. Will have to spend time on what is causing that, but very happy at 3.6 on an unlocked chip Tbh at such good temps.
