It is quite warm in the room , its not too far from the radiator too,
What program should i use to test the CPU under load?

My computer is right infront of my radiator, with a board preventing the wires from touching it and it doesn't get above 40c when idle.

core temps one thing the speed fan says different well i dont know but the water block doesn't get very hot when you touch it but its still very good temps :)

sorry for the big pic

in speedfan , temp 2 is the overall cpu temp. which is the one u should be looking at.

heres mine, on air cooler , overclocked to 3.8ghz, 2.6ghz nb. under load is about 46-48c

just another question guys should my cooler for the CPU be blowing up or down ? I have Lancool Case k58, and my Power supply is at the bottom there is no side panel fan just one at the back and one at the front of the case. with vents on top of the case.

thanks ant.

I dont know you exact case but I would always point it towards the back of the case, this lets it draw in coolish air from the drive bays and expel the hot air through the rear fan.

Why is mine 40c idle and 60c under load then ?
I hate PC's i have just built this computer and i am now stressing out about temperatures.

Can some one advice on a better cooler than my Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro v2 i find this hard to get on and off too.

hi i have got a 955 overclock to 3.6GHz and hear is a screenshot of temp when running intelburn test. I am using a corsair h50-1 cooler

Even 40 degrees is a bit excessive for this chip. I'm using a Skeleton Case with a Scythe Zipang 2 cooler, and I don't think the temperature has been above 40 during a gaming session according to my temp monitor. Am yet to run Prime95 on it as it's a fairly new build. Chuck me an email Hindle if you're interested in my facts and figures.

do we think my Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro v2 is my what's causing my temps ?
My GFX card is high too though at 40-44 idle and 85+ under load

That's also sounding pretty high, though the idle seems about right depending on the card. I get about the same, but only upto about 40ish max under load. What case/cooling setup have you got?

@ stock my 955 is about 33c 1.350v

overclocked @ 3.7Ghz with about 1.4v and it sits @ 38c and 53c load.

I am using the H50 Waterkit, but I wouldnt want mine going past 55c as its just excessive. Ive read reports of cpu shutting down in the mid 70's tho but 60 would deffently be the max I would go.

the max tcase is 62c

keep your eye on the overall cpu temp, not core temp.

this is what i received from amd

Dear Gareth,

Correct, as long as you are within the voltage and temperature guidelines you are ok. The temperature that should be monitored is the overall CPU temperature, not the core temp.

Best regards,
Jesse

Hey, sorry to bring back a oldish thread but I just want to confirm this because I am a little confused.

If you look at this screenshot you can see in Everest and Easytune that they both show a different CPU temp as to what CoreTemp is displaying.

Are you 100% sure that I am supposed to follow this temp, rather than the CPU Cores temps? Where exactly is this sensor located anyway? How do I know how accurate it is -- Meaning, if this 'overall' CPU temp goes to 60c while the cores are at 66c, how do I know this isn't just some sensor on the motherboard and I am actually damaging my CPU? I'm asking basically, how do you know that 1) this sensor is accurate and is 100% meant to be what we are supposed to monitor, and 2) how do you know the 62c max temp is for tcase?

I realise the AMD rep said to follow the overall temp but I am still not convinced, can you lay it out for me :)

CPU #x is typically a core not the cpu temp, try running this http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php instead of core temp. It's easier to read/intemperate.

Okay I just tried it, but it made me even more confused!

Basically all I am getting is Core temps from that. I am getting too many conflicting answers lol, some people are telling me to monitor the core temps while others (and that AMD rep that Garreth emailed) are saying to monitor the -overall- CPU temp ><

Yes that's my fault for posting half asleep :(

Core temps are from the chips internal sensors, the overall temp is measured just off the chip by a motherboard sensor beneath it. Most have 2, one for cpu and one for system temp, but yours has three. Everest lists the cpu as cpu, system as motherboard, not sure what the third cupid is listing is.

Anyway, the numbers in that blue box match them and 50c is quite normal.

Ahh okay, I get it now. Thanks :)

Well, I know that the max temp specified by AMD for this CPU (being 62c) is referring to tcase and NOT core temps, so I am guessing it's correct to monitor the temp labeled CPU in the blue box, and to ignore the core temps.

Thank you for the help :)
