3Dmark06 scores of Phenom X4 on AMD 770 vs QX9650 (underclock 2GHz) on X38

Performance of Quad Core Phenom X4 2GHz on AMD 770 chipset vs QX9650 running on X38 using 8800GTX

SUPER PI 1M = 40s

Using 8800GTX external vga card,
3Dmark06 = 98xx (Phenom X4 runs at 2GHz)
3Dmark06 = 107xx (QX9650 underclk to 2GHz)

Looks like the difference is quite substantial as 3Dmark06 score is partly derived from the CPU score.

AMD Phenom X4 compared to Intel in Crysis

Thanks to the built-in CPU/GPU branchmark system of Crysis, we can easily finish CPU/GPU branchmark on this game. The GPU branchmark will finish today,before that let's have some branchmark score of CPUs:QX6850,QX9650,Phenom X4.

For more balance, Phenom X4 is already OC to 3GHz(15x200MHz) .Because the built-in Memory controller of Phenom have some auto setting funtion, so the memory frenquency is set to 375MHz automatically.

The mobos we are using: AMD's RD790 and Intel's P35. All the settings(including the game)are all default. Graphis card is 8800GTX, the driver is the newest 169.01. All the tests are running in XP. Do you still remember the date that the two new CPU become available?

AMD Phenom X4:Nov 20,2007

For an early chipset/platform which clearly has time to mature those figures are nice and close.

It will be interesting to see how AMD price the Phenom, this should make for an interesting run in to the new year.

Hopefully the Phenom will overclock as good as if not better than the Brisbane, we'd have a real fight then.

Nice info Azza. Shame AMD have nothing in the bag to make people switch from Intel, should have never pushed everyone over to Intel with the 939 -> AM2 change.

does 3d mark 06 make full use of more than 2 cores, I can't remember.

But the second table with the dual core 3ghz cpu is clearly not utilising all 4 cores as the dual is nearly a match for the quad intel.
The scalability of the phenom should be better than the intel quad, its been shown via the server chips that the x4 core scales better.

I'll wait till a full review comes out rather than just a couple of games related benchmarks. Real use of a quad core is not going to be in games, its in cad and video etc in my view

edit: and wouldn't the 15x200 versus 9x333 have some effect on the performance too.

That's what I thought, the board had oc'd the memory but what's that point if the multi is left that high?
At least it's something to look at I suppose, you'd be forgiven for forgetting about Phenom given the lack of real world results we've seen. Hopefully there will be some sort of reviews out soon, I wont hold my breath though.

With u on that, i wanna see some benchmarks for them, i bought an AM2 board so that i wouldn't have to buy a whole new board when these came out.

I'm starting to feel like i should have just bought Intel and clocked the nuts off it !
Fingers crossed

Trouble is, if AMD are going to get customers back from Intel (and surely that has to be their game plan) then they are going to need chips that are faster than Intel's, not just as fast (as this looks like it will be).

Fixed ;)

So it looks like 3-4FPS difference. Very very interesting! Price will be nice to know as well as if it can clock further than 3.0Ghz, perhaps with Water, etc? Perhaps some choice tweaks on the motherboards and also memory may see it gain some more FPS. :)
