AMD Polaris GPUs Can’t Run Forspoken Due To Lack DirectX 12_1 Feature Level Support, NVIDIA Maxwell GPUs Run Fine

Pretty much a non-issue anyway, Polaris is old now. Even if it did work, what performance where we looking at anyway?

Claimed to be a 480 running on linux at 1080P

most of the time it's above 30FPS
It's not at high or ultra, it's running at standard settings which I think is this games term for medium. Also I have fog turned off and clouds on low which reduce stress on gpu.

Grain of salt as nothing seems to be happening most of the time.

I've seen some interesting technical points being made as to why this game doesn't run on Windows but it can be bodged to run on Linux. Not here of course but it would appear the game asks for a higher dx level than it needs.

Linux is a using a version of Vulkan that windows can't iirc.

As mentioned by Yaayuh! , it's a bit of a none issue with 7+ year old hardware hitting a limit that was known in 2015 - it was in all of the released specs for the Polaris range.

The issue is really that both team green and team red have no decent low ends in the latest ranges that offer the value Polaris did, rather than Polaris being EOL for games written using specific apis.

This is pretty much the nail on the head. There also doesn't seem to be anything upcoming that looks like it will meet the criteria. The lower ranges were priced too highly last gen, and I havent yet seen anything that will change it this gen.

As above performance is fine. All you are doing is denying users from using the app regardless of performance.

This is at the exact same level as Microsoft not allowing Windows 11 to be installed without TPM and internet, your blocking user access for soft reasoning not hard cap. Let the users run the game, if performance is low it's their choice to play or not don't decide for them

Put it into words who made a decision to block user access and when that decision was made.

How cinematic....

Star Citizen, Orbital Port Tressler to New Babbage city on planet MicroTech, Manual fly down, 2 years ago before the Vulkan enhancements.

At least that was ^^^

Why do so many devs insist on using DX12 anyway? Vulkan is better.

Yup , budget pc gaming has been reduced to APU or second hand.

It has, although in its favour is the fact that the majority of big games that are released now just aren't as engaging as they used to be (or I'm just getting older and grumpier). The most enjoyable ones seem to be smaller, indie titles which will work well on older cards. New games are all the rage for about a month, then fall by the wayside again.

Whilst a Polaris apparently can't run Forspoken, it's possibly a little unfair to expect it to given the time that has passed.

They don't want to make anything that doesn't cost £500 minimum.
