AMD Polaris HEVC Encode/Decode, is this 'really' good for Streamers?

So it seems there is a plugin for OBS which updates it to the latest ReLive drivers which broke the AMD Encoder in OBS, quality looks good so far in my testing last night.

Plugin can be downloaded here..

https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/5ha7g8/obs_studio_amd_encoder_plugin_v1433_crimson/

HEVC seems to be on its way to OBS soon too by the sounds of it.. the sooner the better i say.

Im looking forward to HEVC in OBS, at least my start/stop record hotkeys work 'while' im already in the game with OBS.. and i can change the gamma etc in OBS too.

Will be testing some different games later and compare the AVC results between ReLive and OBS.

My main issue with ReLive though is that the audio isnt syncing 'every' time i record, seems random when it wants to sync, the audio is around 1-3 seconds difference from what you see on the video , and thats not good at all.

Edit, also in OBS we can go way over 50MB bitrate :)

Polaris CANT encode 4K at 60fps

https://www.reddit.com/r/Amd/comments/5rxtes/psa_rx_4607080_cant_encode_4k_at_60fps_please/

I was read AMD reddit and saw the link. 7 months after Polaris launch and the cat is out of bag, Mikhail from AMD confirmed Polaris CANT encode 4K at 60fps!!!

This is probably much bigger issue than GTX 970 memory scandal because it affected all Polaris chips.

Somebody should file a lawsuit to suing RTG for Polaris spec false advertised 4K60 encoder supported and retailers should exchange RX 460, RX 470 and RX 480 cards or issue full refund which Nvidia did the same thing with people not happy with GTX 970 3.5GB memory partition and 56 ROPs instead of 64 ROPs.

LOL digging deep here Guy!!! GeeezzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzZZZZZZZZ

AMD have stated from Relive Release that the 480 only does 4k 30fps

sue RTG for what ? they never claimed 4k60fps encoding, they juste said 4k.
and polaris do 4k33fps, thats probably enough for most ppl.

Ohhh yeah they did claimed from original Polaris slides back in June 2016!

Here the evidence original links found in reddit thread.

Notice the date January 4 2016 on slide.

Press slides and what is confirmed features are two very different things..
Read the small print!! GCN probably does support 4k 60fps but the GPUs atm do not! Has Stated in the official release page for Relive!!

Nit picking at its finest

Not in the polaris whitepapers it specifically states
The polaris architecture has been updated to include h.265 encode acceleration at 1080p240
1440p120 and 2160p60 rates.

And I bet this is all subjective to change, like in the small print of that slide Compatible application.

My 290 only does 1080p 60fps max but if I use OBS with AMD encoder plug in I can record 60fps 1440p..

AMD have stated on the release page the the 480 with Relive can do 4k 30fps for this Software!!

The footnote doesn't cover rate of acceleration, just disablement or enablement.
9 Hevc acceleration is subject to inclusion/installation of Hevc compatible applications.

There's a case here if the encode unit cannot maintain an encode rate which differs from it's specification. But so far no evidence has been made to prove this.

I encode all my videos using H265. (hevc x265). I even use Staxrip (with a gtx980) on my encoding PC. Not quite the quality of handbrake on a 2 pass encode but my life it's so friggin fast (staxrip)

So Twitch have upped their bitrate policy in the past week, they now recommend 3000kbps-6000kbps.. that 6000kbps with the AMD H264 Encoder in OBS Studio looks pretty good on stream :)

The great thing is i dont notice any hit on my perf with this against the x264 Encoder on the CPU, this will do me until we get some H.265 love from Twitch :p

OBS has now added AMD HEVC recording.. lets hope Twitch support H.265 soon, surely OBS will get a quick update for it.

VLC seems to have an issue with playback though, plays fine from the start but when skipping through the video it'll just pause and it wont continue to play.

I found VLC to be pretty bad in general for watching recordings, specially anything done with high bit rates and other codecs.

I use MPC-BE with KCP, and it'll perfectly play anything I throw at it. Even 400MB/s bit rate videos using the 64-bit UtVivode YUV422 BT.709 VCm codec in AVI.

I find YouTube streaming has better quality than Twitch. Plus viewers cam select the quality they want. This on Twitch cam only be done if you partner.

I been using AMD Relive 10mbps 1080p 60fps the quality is excellent with no performance hit either :)

Whats your twitch channel. Many streams do not look good unfortunately, as they cater to people on mobiles etc so I'd not mind seeing a good picture demo done right
