AMD processor help

Having had to change the board in my work pc, please can someone recommend a quad core processor from this list. Current have a Athlon 64 x 2 5600+.

Not that familiar with the AMD's these days, so any help gratefully received !

Shame it is only AM2+, as you could have a lot more options with an AM3 board. I would reccomend one of the Phenom II X4, as these have higher cache sizes and use less power.
Do you need a quad core for work? You could save some money and get an Athlon dual core?

Afaik, the later AM2+ socket supports AM3 processors, the only difference being that AM3 supports DDR3, whereas AM2+ supports DDR2. Checking the specs on that mobo, MSI's own compatibility list shows that mob supporting only the earlier phenoms, not the phenom II prozzies

Quad not not really necessary but going to get one as I do a bit of Folding as well

So the Phenom is the one to go for ?

I've got a Phenom II and it does give fantastic performance, though I would make sure it is a Phenom II X4, and not one of the older Phenom X4 models.

As far as I can see, Going by that compatibility list, the newer phenoms (II) aren't supported, only the older ones.

Yep, my bad, I meant the "latest" phenom II X4 cpus, 810, 940, 955, 965, versions.
