I've just received a Phenom 2 940 today I brought this from else where. I have the Asus Crosshair with Bios 1207. I previously had the 9950. I installed it and posted and in the post screen it says "Amd Processor Model Unknown" I've read on the Asus Forums that this CPU can support my Board.

Any Advice?

CPU-Z is the first place to start to help you identify your CPU but you may need to flash your BIOS for the system to correctly recognise it. Check the motherboards website for latest BIOS updates.

edit.. just checked and 1207 is the latest :(

If you have had a CPU in previosly, try resetting the CMOS.

It should be fine as it is now but I'd update the BIOS if you want to view the correct string.
 
New version of CPU-Z to support Phenom II only came out on the 14.02.09 - Make sure you have the latest version.

Don't worry about it. As its only the name that the bios & OS does not see but CPU-Z does.
Just like having 8GB of ram installed & with windows XP would only see 3.5GB of it but CPU-Z will tell you that you have 8GB of ram which is true bit cannot be used.
Just relax until there is a new bios.
 
According to the Asus site, your board doesn't support the new Phenom's. I'm surprised you've got it to run at all, seeing as it's not supposed to be compatible with your motherboard.

I'm miffed too.

But I've been reading the asus forums about this cpu and most of the users there are running it on their boards. Ile send it back and wait for a Bios update stuck my 9950 in for the moment.

I don't understand the problem, if the PC is running ok then whats the issue?

I also doubt there will be a bios upgrade for your board. As above I'm surprised it works but if it does then whats the issue? Its good to see it working in a board with an older chipset also :)

why send it back? if it's running fine then keep it. or u could keep it and then use your 9950 untill u get a update.
