AMD produce 45nm processors

As far as i know it doesnt really matter if AMD are producing 45nm die process if the core architecture is all the pot then its pretty pointless, probably only for lower powerconsumption, as that seems the route are going down at the moment rather than hardcore clockers, my cpu background isnt that great but its my guess.

Best to stick with OEM versions then , as the 3yr manufactures warranty will be worth nothing if they went bust :D

Seriously though , if AMD did ever fall flat on thier face and go bust ( which i dont think will happen at all ) then it will only be bad news for us as the consumer.

Having said that i am sure someone else would take them over.

I'd assume technology would no longer advance as fast and everyone would be forced to pay premiums.
EU? Dunno, someone important would care though and bail them out.

You think the EU really care if AMD go bust becasue the consumer will be out of pocket?!

They got a few billion from the EU the other month as far as I'm aware.

Jokester

MMM obiously the EU dont care.

The reason the EU wouldn't let it happen is because we live in a world whree you have a choise in what you buy. Obiously ifthe choise is taken away prices rise and its not good. I can assure you that they will always try and make sure there is choise.

no. because its the biggest chip manufacturer in the EU. it employs and makes money for germany, the biggest economy in Europe. the EU wants to challenge america economically and so will support a rival to the american giant that is Intel. they've done it before and they will do it again if need be. however as ive said, i dont see the threat of collapse on the horizon.

~edit~ gah dave posted before me :)

Everyone of us really need AMD to pull the stops out here or our upgrade costs in the future are going to be through the roof.

Without competition, Intel and Nvidia will charge premium rates without actually pricing themselves out of the market yet still making the new technologies very tempting for us enthusiasts, giving them high margin, high volume yields which is utopia for any company.

As said previously, I reckon that efficiency will play a major factor in the future. The power consumption of the 2900 is just ridiculous in my opinion and in the near future cards & cpu's will not only be benched on the amount of stream processors, clock speeds and core quantities but on the amount of juice they use under stress.

Hopefully AMD can come up trumps and do us all a favour

I read somewhere that they halved their losses and running costs this year. That is a step in the right direction. If they can keep on track then they may break even in a year or so and then get back in profit. As long as they have enough cash to keep going anyway. I don't care how big a company is, no company can afford keep haemorrhaging cash. We really need them to stay in the game as a one manufacturer cpu/gpu market will hurt everyone.

Even if they did get into terminal problems i can see the likes of Samsung or similar buying them up.

Bill Gates may rummage in his pocket if all else fails :P

Darn, someone else posted the same thing, teach me to just read page 1 :|
