AMD Quad Core now at OcUK

Agreed, until Barcelona AMD aren't really the way to go. I suppose seeing that it comes with the motherboard and heatsinks, couple with the fact it's 2 cpu's the price isn't that bad, still can't see many people going for it though.
 
Not actually a quad core though. Just a pair of Dual Cores. Biggest difference, XP Home supports Kentsfield 'Quad Core', but it doesnt support more than 1 socket on the motherboard.

Maybe that are still expensive for what they are.

Am i right in reading that they are not supported in XP? and Vista only with Ultimate edition?

By around £100 :D

You guys thinking of budling different CPUs with it? i.e. 2 * FX-70s
 
You'd have to be slightly mad to buy one of these though. Proper quad core (K8L) are literally months away now... Which will put out around half the heat and consume half the watts that a 4x4 system will.

Not only that, but i'd need another modded Mach2 to cool two seperate cpu's. Roll on K8 :D
 
Id say it was a very good price, considering it includes 2 cpus and the mobo.



Would it need 4gb of ram to equate the performance of a single cpu solution with 2gb?
 
Gotta be mad to buy this rig over Intel, best wait for true quad from AMD, or buy intel. No suprise there has been no real marketing push for this kind of setup, Intel are miles in front for now, best wait for AMD to pull out the stops before us etailers part with our cash on non Intel quads,especially when they arent on the same socket, half the cost and you have a deal.

Yeap better off waiting till summer but even then the Quad core AMD desktop chips wont be arriving till September apparantly, the barcelonas are just workstation chips due July/August.
