AMD Quad Core - Virtual Tour

Btw, i happened to stumble upon a mention of your little robot, i think it was in a picture of your car, and i'm quite intrigued. Did you build it yourself completely from scratch?
I did build it from scratch. She was powered by a pair or symmetrical drive motor assemblies I called motor packs. Each contained a CIM electric wheelchair motor and a Bosch 12V electric drill motor and accompanying planetary transmission (modified to disable the clutches), a gearbox, and two PWM-commanded motor controllers. I had three spare motor packs in the pits ready to swap at first sign of failure. I ended up needing to use one when a motor smoked in a competition round. It took 4 minutes to swap it. :D

Sounds like a lot of fun.

Its his fault its his fault he told me teh sekrit nothing to do with me <whistles>

Its something i've always been interested in from my go-kart building days (this was before the pc took over my life and i actually went outside) :p
And now i tinker with r/c cars so i could probably get my head round the r/c side of it.
I used to enjoy watching robot wars... what happened to that anyway?

Aha! I built a racing go kart a few summers back as well. It was completely built from scratch using a salvaged split-case Yamaha 175cc motor good for 21 BHP at 16500 RPM with integrated 5-speed gearbox, 8" softie racing slicks, custom cambered front end (the math behind that nearly made me lose my mind ;)), and moped-style disk brakes. That was one wild ride. It's still around but needs fixing as my friend crashed it into a curb at about 30 MPH. It didn't have a speedo or tach but by method of following car we clocked it at more than 90 MPH. :o

I don't know what happened to the fighting robot TV shows. I guess they just fell out of style.

It got crap after all the robots were basically the same. A wedge with a burger flipper on top. The best robot ever on that show was Roadblock - the first robot to win.

I think they should bring it back but have more interesting weaponry. Current rules only let you drill, spike or chop/mallet. I want a depleted uranium tipped harpoon! :p

I had suspension, a walkman, soft carpet and a flashing light. But then i was only about 12 at the time. Still got it somewhere if it hasn't rotted away. It was made of salvaged rotting wood to begin with.
I did try one with a lawnmower engine, the 2nd engine (the first would never start) is still sitting under a tarpaulin outside. Basically i couldn't go any further because i couldn't weld and had nothing but wood and nails to work with. Never managed to do proper steering either, it just wouldn't work and the traditional style rope steering wasn't good enough. Had the engine ready to mount but we removed a lot of the gearing and it was never that powerful to begin with so i was of the opinion that it wouldn't have worked anyway. Was a lot of fun though.

Its a shame about robot wars and others, they were a lot of fun to watch. I hope they make a comeback sometime soon. I wish they filmed the darpa grand challenge, or made fighting to the death part of the challenge. They should you know, as its for defence. :p

Ahh well, i must be going as i need to get some kip, gotta get up early for uni unlike some lucky bugger round here. ;)
I'll mostly be learning how a scanner works... ohh the joy. Wish those mobile internet cards didn't cost so much.
