AMD® Athlon™ II Overclocking Thread

Sorry.

CPU Multiplier.

Forgive me, i'm a noob, I dont have many options in BIOS for memory, pretty much ddr 400, 500, 677, 800 and 1066.

Computer does not seem to like been in any other memory mode other then ddr 800. (auto)

Decided to get the DFI board and go from there, i'll pop back with updates results once I receive it and get it setup.

I'm sure i'll have more luck with a better/modern board.

Ok guys, got the new motherboard and now we'll see what I can achieve, erm but geez I didnt realise how many options it would have in the BIOS!!

Any help tweaking greatly appreciated.

ATM got it on 13 x 245 still 1:2 ratio using the trusted DDR800 Modules.

Can anyone recommend a good read...

Basically I don't know how to change/loosen the ram divider on this DFI board.

Perhaps I am out my depth but this Chip seems like its got lots more to offer but it crashes in Windows at a bus speed of 245.

Do I need to change anything on the North Bridge or any other multiplier, any help would be great, failing that i'll have to get some faster memory :D

Athlon II x2 240

Budget rig, sat at 3.43Ghz on stock cooling as well as using onboard video.

I could probs run it a bit higher but dont want to push the voltage for 24/7 use

I have just got some Patriot DDR2 1066 memory.

Can someone help me with the divider and htt settings.

My computer does not seem to want to go near a 266 bus speed? I confess I dont really understand the divider stuff and the more I read it the more I'm getting confused.

Baiscally all i'm wanting is 13x266 yet I dont seem to be able to get close to it.

Please can someone help, I have the DFi 790GX board which comes with lots of settings but the user manual is hopeless and I was hoping someone could give me a crash course in achieving a very modest overclock?

Here is my latest settings.

Only thing I see different from my screen dumps to others is my NB and HTT frequencies are higher...

I'd try knocking your HT Link down to 1.6ghz mate that should leave it running at 2ghz, had the same problem with the X2 240. I couldnt get it above 3.4ghz dropping the HT link has let me up it to 3.5ghz I'm aiming for around 3.6-3.7ghz but I'm currently limited by cooling as I'm on the stock HSF and hitting 62 degrees load

Thanks for the help, that image is not my settings its just the one I could find from a pdf, its the same layout.

As I say, I basically bought some new components thinking ok i'll whack them in and 13x266(533) would be no problem.

Cooling is fine, sat now at 22 degrees on idle.

Update:
Mate thats helped for the time being, its loaded into windows and allowing some pretty basic stress tests which it was not doing/allowing earlier.

The issue I have and which probably lots of others have is the HT goes up with the NB when I increase the clock speed, i've only ever had Black Edition processors so never had problems like this, just used to rely on the multiplier to get me some more power :)

Keeps crashing in and out of games.

Thought I maybe had it but its gone again.

Currently at 255 x 13 (default CPU multiplier) 3315Mhz

Ht Link set at 1.6 Ghz BIOS and displaying 2004Mhz Windows and NB Multiplier to 9 and showing 2295Mhz in Windows.

Am I missing something
Any comments to help me out some more?

frozennova: Nice to see your first results although I'm having problems reading the details of the clock? (midget screenie). . . is that 1.584vCore? . . . I wouldn't bother running Super-PI but instead try Fritz, Cinebench and WPrime . . . . I would have thought that chip could do 14x250 @ 1.400vCore?

iTek: Are you still using your DDR2-800 memory? . . . Nice new board you got there! :) . . . have you worked out how to adjust the Memory frequency yet? . . . this will be a crucial setting for you if you intend to get some more overclocking progress as at the moment "if" your stick using memory rated at 400MHz (DDR2-800) along with a HT ref. Clock of 255MHz and 1 [1:2] memory multiplier your ram is now running at 510MHz (DDR2-1020) . . . any chance you can post a screenie like this please . .

CPU-z download unzip, doubleclick the CPU-z icon, when it's opened doubleclick the CPU-z icon to run a second copy . . . .

BW! - Just the guy.

No im now using Patriot DDR 1066 stuff 5-5-5-15.

I can supply you with any screens etc mate, I just need some help.

Ive now had to bump my settings down because gaming was crashing.

Realise I have not turned my voltage back down but this is where i'm at.

Ive worked out how to change the NB Multiplier and set the HT Link manually.

As for memory, its on Auto in Timing Mode.

iTek: I'm not sure how much of the BIOS you have changed yourself? . . . is it just the vCore and CPU-NB/HT Link Multi? . . . I'm tempted to get you to reset the BIOS and start again?

Now you have a new mobo and Ram I would expect you should achieve a 250MHz Ht ref. Clock with little effort, to make life easier and less complicated for yourself at this early stage you could reduce both the CPU-NB/HT Link Multi to [x8], this means that when you dial in a 250MHz Ht ref. Clock you *won't* be clocking either the CPU-NB/HT Link and just the processor i.e

2600/2000/2000/800
CPU x13/CPU-NB x10/HT Link x10/2:1 Mem

3250/2000/2000/1000
CPU x13/CPU-NB x8/HT Link x8/2:1 Mem

For that clock the only voltage that may need taking off [auto] would be vCore . . . and at that speed I can't see the chip needing more than 1.280/1.300vCore? . . . if you can crack the above clock then you will be ready for the next step!

Just the man Wayne was awaiting your input

thats 1.504 vCore I couldnt get it stable at above 3.4 without a major bump in voltage. Prime would almost instantly error @3.6 and 3.8 although I could get Wprime and fritz runs on those clocks.

However being my first AMD overclock I later realised that this was due to the HT link and nb multi.

Its currently @ 3.5 with the same volts and HT link set to 8x (1.6ghz in gigabyte bios)

For 3.8 should I be looking at these settings

FSB

3794/2000/2000
CPU x14/CPU-NB x7/HT Link x7

Staying on 1.5 vCore and then knocking it down once stable.

Ive reset BIOS.

Put what you wanted me enter in the BIOS.

HT link does not come up as multiplier, its 1.2/1.4/1.6 (Selected) /1.8/2.0ghz is this the same thing, I wont change anything without you instruction.

Here is a shot, only things i have done in BIOS is set the memory to UNGANGED and changed the above, memory timing etc are default (auto)

Whats the next step?
