AMD® Athlon™ II Overclocking Thread

Just bought a 445 x3 on a certain auction site for 40 quid inc postage (have been told 4th core stable unlocked prime 13 hours), quite happy with that, i have a x6 cooler on the way, what realistic clocks can i expect?

Getting really excited about my first build / clock now just need some ram and im away!

you've been told? i do hope they offered screenshots showing cpu-z and prime testing lol

realistic clock on a quad with a stock hexcore cooler? i'd say stock settings, the stock amd cooler is exactly the same for all chips, and it's pretty naff, :D
 
Oh really? haha i been had then i thought the x6 cooler was a lot better than the athlons, oh well, no wasnt shown any screen shots and tbh would have bought it had it not been, if it doesnt unlock not end of world he will just get bad feedback.

EDIT

The athlon and x4/x6 HSF are different are they not? surely the x6 must be a little better, being that it cools 6 cores??

hmmm ok the hexcore cooler looks better with some heatpipes but for overclocking, you would be better off with a basic cheap cooler like the Coolermaster TX3 or the arctic cooling freezer 7 pro, their both under £20 and are much better than a stock cooler ;)
 
Thanks :) the cooler did only cost £6 inc postage (auction site),

one question if someone doesnt mind answering, my build will have 1 dvd drive, 1 hdd, 1 4850 graphics card (for now) how many sata cables do i need x2??

Seriously though why do people always reduce them to this ridiculous size. Sorry seen too many tiny barely legible screenshots lately.

My 620 will boot at a very high clock too but needs backing off a lot to be stable, contrasting that with my x6 that won't boot untill it's neer stable.

3.5 seems to be the sweet spot for these athlons, anything over that needs lotsa volts.
