AMD® Phenom™ II Overclocking Thread

Your chip just might not be able to do 4GHZ.
I've only ever seen a handful of 4GHZ Prime stable 965's, one of them was my 1.375v chip.
1.4v is the lowest binned 125W C3 to meet the "125W" TDP.

Try 1.5375v.
If that doesn't work, you're pretty much snookered.

Alternatively, you could try a bus of 350 with a multi of 11.5.
You're likely to get higher clocks with a lower multiplier.
Up the CP NB voltage to 1.5v and NB voltage to 1.35v

AMD are annoyingly vague when it comes to stock voltages. for the 965 they list anywhere between 0.825 and 1.40V, so obviously that includes the lowered voltage with speed step enabled. Nowhere do they mention what the stock voltage should be when the cpu is operating at full speed.

My 965, for example, defaults to 1.3v under load and 0.96v at idle. the makes it the lowest I have personally seen. Now, I dont know if this is the cpu's doing, or the motherboard's, but i do know its rocks solid stable at those voltages.

Hi all,

This has been my OC for well over a month. Its all stable (been primed but no screenie) and cpu temp never goes over 49 :)

Only gripe I have it that because its an unlocked dual to quad I get the odd crap out where the gpu fan spins up to max and a blank screen. When i restart it i have to re- save the oc settings in bios and turn it off and ton untill the motherboard sees that all 4 cores are active. Think I may see if a new bios is out but thats that only issue, oh and its infrequent. Can happen surfing the net or playing games.

Its an odd one.

It could be the bios,
the cpu itself,
the gpu or
my psu.

Just cant figure out whats causing it to blank out and the gpu fan to spin up to 100%. Then 3 turn offs and turn ons to get it going again.

It happened whilst playing World Of Warcraft and our team had just killed the Lich King and 10 seconds in to the cut sceen poof it went and crapped out, think the team has it all recorded too lol.

Off thrack there sorry. I did notice however that if I have CnQ on it happen more often compared to having it off so I am wondering if it could be the PSU.

Hwmonitor shows my cpu at a quad is rated at 164w! However I am unsure of how acurate that is.

I think I have cracked it. Got it running at 4013MHz with 1.548V. I know it is a little high :p. In the half hour that I ran Prime95 it didn't BSOD. I think it is because I loosened the timings for my ram :). Will do 6 hour blend tomorrow and if it doesn't bluescreen I will be happy :D I will also reduce the voltage until it BSOD'S to see how low it can go.

Also, why did it bluescreen for Prime 95 but not for 10 runs of extreme intelburntest?

My x2 550 unlocked running at 3.8gh under water.

Running ok after an hour and a bit, my chip doesn't seem to like high multi so going to have to raise the bus speed to hit the magic 4ghz.

How can your CPU not like a high multiplier? are you sure it's not to do with the changing of other settings when running a low fsb? either way 3.8ghz quad for £70 or so is a bit of a bargain.

Silent Upgrades

I am surprised at the results of my upgrades for silent computing of a Noctua’s NH-D14 CPU Cooler and XFX 850W Black Edition PSU leading to an extra 0.14 GHz overclock, stable on an old 955 C2 to 3.84 GHz.

Hey, Well at the moment I am using a phenom 945 and I am going to be building my new computer very soon. I have got the phenom 1055T and I'm thinking about overclocking it as I am getting some decent cooling stuff. what would you guys say a good overclock would be for me if I am using a Corsair H70 and adding a lot of case fans. I am not looking for anything extreme really.
